Hi Jim —
Is this true? I recently was offered (through Software Service I think) a
subscription to _Commodore_World_, of all the blasted things; I wouldn't have
thought twice about it (SS specializes in OLD JUNK) but the ad stated "If you
subscribe by May 95 …"
Reason I ask you is that YOU are mentioned as one of the columnists! Is this
so? Is _CW_ really an ongoing thing? Who PUBLISHES it?…

It's true! It's true! But you should know that Commodore World (published
by CMD) is a publication directed at owners of Commodore 8-bit machines.
I've been doing a column on input/output ("Peripheral Visions") and will be
starting one on machine language shortly.
Oddly, we seem to have no outlet at all for technical material in the Amiga
world. Sigh.

Who are these people that are still using and programming the C64?
Not that the C64 is useless, I liked mine till I gave it to my nephew, but
it's been years since it was in production, and years and years since I've
seen any software for it anywhere.
A surprising number of people find that the 64 (and/or the 128) fits their
style, and in some cases their budget. While the 8-bit machines don't have the
power and capacity of more recent computers, some users are just more
comfortable with them .. they do what's needed, and have a different level of
"interactivity".
Don't want to start any flames here, but a Pentium system user might well
ask, "Why are people still using the Amiga?". Seems to me the answer has more
to do with the people than the technology.

Wasn't trying to flame or ridicule C64 stalwarts. Just wondering what
kind of userbase was left. Developers and magazines, notably AW have left
the Amiga arena, and here is a tech magazine devoted to the C64 which has
been out of production for years.
Then again AW said they were leaving because of a lack of resolution to
the liquidation. It's been resolved, so they can come back now. <grin>
On the other hand, Why Amiga users still use the Amiga.
Because the Amigas run Amiga Dos better than the Pentiums run Windows.

We've got a 90 Mhz Pentium at work. I was expecting a real scorcher, and
was underwhelmed when I saw it's Windoze performance. Perhaps all that
plug n' play stuff wasn't fine tuned just right.
