#Rendering Software

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for some advise and suggestions. I currently have
TrueSpace V1.04 which I use for designing and rendering both single frames and
animations. There are a number of things about it that I like as follows:
1. very intuitive and friendly interface.
2. No separate modules for different parts of the program.
3. Easy to use.
4. Easy to see exactly what is going on. However there are several
things about it which annoy me as follows:
1. No particle systems.
2. No height fields.
3. No boolean operations.
4. No animation of surface textures.
5. No ability to select what casts shadows.
6. No ability to make things glow and therefore become light sources.
7. No colour coding of objects.
8. No 'plug-in' ability. I know that some of these have been added in
the new version of TS which I am eager to get hold of. However I have been
rather put off by the people I have talked to at Caligari. It appears that the
company is making a commitment to Windows'95 which is quite understandable
because TS is a windows based product. The problem is though, that the support
people have basically told me that I should wait around for the Win'95 version
of TS to give me some of the things I want to do. I have several problems with
this:
1. Delivery date of Win'95 and therefore Win'95 version of TS is
basically unknown and I want to do things now.
2. Win'95 is quite likely to contain bugs.
3. I presently run OS/2 and have no intention of changing from a
tested,
stable OS to a relatively untested, unknown OS because of one
package I wish to run. So, I am considering looking for a new
package to run instead of TS. Basically I would like to get recommendations of
package to look at with the following criteria:
1. Features should include all the things that TS does not do.
2. Cost should be no more than about twice that of TS. IF anyone has
any ideas or thoughts, please drop me a line.
Derek,
Is there a particular _type_ of 3D animation you want to create, i.e.
flying logos, bouncey characters, FX for compositing with live-action,
hyper-realistic ray-traced scenes, 3D game animation, etc.?

Imagine can do everything except the Plug-ins, but you would have to dual boot
to dos because Imagine cannot run under DPMI. It's also cheaper than truespace.
