Atari hasn't forgotten about graphics chips. They've got a socket on the new
1040 motherboards going into production this summer which accepts their planned
blitter chip. I dont kow hen it will be done, tho. I will be going out to
dinner tonight with an ex-Atari chip designer (the guy who did the AMY sound
chip) and I'll pump him about what they had a year or two ago. He did say there
were several other graphics chips Atari was working on. According to something
he dropped into conversation once, the chips they had then even blew the pants
off the Amiga graphics chips.
I beleive the Atari Bit Blitter does BiltBlit but own't draw lines or fill
polygons. Anyone here more on this???

I heard about those chips in January, well I'll believe it when I see it! And
from a Software developers view, we had a problem when Atari announced the
GTIA upgrade. We didnt support because not ALL of the machines had them.
Well, I think the Blitter chip is gonna run into the same problem. BTW, I was
in Toys'R'Us yesterday and guess what I saw? Yup, the Atari 520ST piecemeal
system, which really makes sense to sell it that way. The Keyboard was $350,
the disk drive was $250 and the monitor was $300. I suppose a person only
buying the Keyboard has alot of fun ahead of him! Remember, it's now selling
in TOYS'R'US, that should tell you something about the quality of the
computer! Jim

being worked on 3 months before the Tramiel takeover — wonder what happened
to them? No way the 'new' Atari will get them since they couldn't even
finish Amy.
