Need some input on memory boards! Have been contemplating 1-4 meg memory
addition to my Amiga and a scan of the mags shows many options. Some important
considerations for me are cost, expandability, quality, space. Space is
important – don't have the room for towers on the side or giant boxes on top!
Have only about two inches on top of the cpu that could be used. What have
people used? How has it performed? Has anyone tried the internal 1 meg board
– how does it work? Thanks ahead of time for your input!

I have the Insider from Michigan Software, and am very happy with it.

I have the Insider (internal 1 Meg upgrade) and love it. However, you
state you want further expandability…and Insider won't expand further.
However, if you can be satisfied with 1.5meg total…it's a very good way to
go.
If you want futher expansion…you'll have to pick an external box such
as the one from ASDG that you can plug cards into. Or you might pick an
external RAM upgrade such as the aMEGA from C.Ltd or the Starboard II from
Microbiotics. If you want something that goes ontop of the Amiga then there is
the PAL Jr. from Byte by Byte or the RAMbo from Tecni-Soft. There are others
and you'll have to decide for yourself which is the best for you. I don't have
any experience with any of the above mentioned boards except the Insider.

Don, The Insider is tempting. If I understand it correctly the cpu is pulled
a and the board pluged in the cpu socket then the cpu goes on the board(?).
Since th the external buss is still there I presume I could still go up more
with an additional product attached there. -=Dennis=-

That is exactly correct…and the installation is easy with complete
step by step instructions and a phone number to call if you have any questions
at all. For all intent and purposes, Insider is on the expansion bus…it's
just inside the machine rather than outside it and makes avery neat package.

I got a PAL JR. from BYTE by BYTE a couple of weeks ago and you may want to
look at that. It sits on top of the Amiga and is only about 2 inches thick. B
by B is always advertising in the Amiga mags so you can get
the specs from that. Or you can contact them on CIS or BIX. My own opinion is
that it is a very well made peripheral and really expands the capabilities of
the machine. Also, the people at B by B are very helpful when I ask questions,
as with everyone in the forum<grin>.
