If Commodore acutally thinks we (I) will pay $995 for the Sidecar when I can
buy an entire IBM-clone package for that price, they're nuts. I think I have
finallycome to the decision to abandon the Amiga. Yes, it is a GREAT computer,
but I want a computer which is supported by its manu facturer, and the Amiga is
not. I think the high ups at CBM have a few screws loose.
Jeff, I don't think they do expect most people to pay for the Sidecar. They
are planning on selling about 600 units in America. Keep in mind that their is
the possibility that C/A will make an unprecedented announcement; A trade in
program whereby you can trade your 1000 plus $1000.00 and get the base Amiga
2000. Plus a bridge card at (guessing hi (hopefully)) $795.00 and a 20MB fixed
disk at $595.00 and you've got a dream machine. Question: Is gaining Ibm
compatibility worth losing the Amiga? -John
In order to approach doing with a stand alone clone what you can do with a
Sidecar, you'd need to put an ethernet board into both the clone and your
Amiga, which would boost the cost of the system to well over $995.
The promise of Janus technology remains awesome.
