#Amiga 500
10 messages in this thread
This is the FIRST (I think) message left here on AmigaForum using an Amiga 500
– Sure is a nice little beastie! (Looks an awful lot like a pregnant C128).
Keyboard layout for the main keyboard itself is a Selectric look, layout, and
feel. (Chalk one up for IBM). Keypad has the IBM notations on the Keyboard
(Chalk up another one for IBM) – Gee, is this supposed to be a clone of some
sort?
Drive is reliable and quiet – Seems a bit quicker even – maybe just my
imagination or because it is so quiet.
Oh yes, the SOLID (Left Amiga) from the 1000 is now on the right side and there
is a COMMODORE key where the Left Amiga Key was – So much for those Menu
selections, etc.
Monochrome output is clean and clear – Works great on a cheapie long
persistance monitor for good interlace screens.
Not much more to add that you haven't seen in the mags.
bri
PS. DesignText works great on it, and even takes advantage of the PageUP and
PageDN and other keys on the keypad.
One other note – Now that there is a Commodore Key and An Amiga Key, the reset
sequence is CONTROL-COMMODORE-AMIGA (How's that for subliminal messages?)
Kris & Bri
Bri,
Let's add another "first" to the list of first's today then…
I'm using Diga! for the first time today, just got it and have been playing
with it for about an 15 minutes now, so won't say much except my first
impression is "Nice!"….
I'll post a more complete impression and review in a few days after I
try out lots of things.
Don
Sorry Don, that isn't a real first – I've been using Diga! (Beta Tester #3
here) for about 2 months.
Bri
Bri,
Well…yes, I know others have been beta testing it…I just meant it
was a first for me to be using it…and in it's 132×50 mode, it IS quite
readable!
Don
OK – Just teasing you – yes, in 132×50 it makes a wile VT100 emulator.
BTW – After you get out of Diga! are there any glitchies on your WB screen – My
1.0Beta drops bits onto the WB screen memory as it runs.
Bri
That's OK Bri… Rick Sterling is probbly the first for a message left with an
A500. Not sure tho.
Regards, Larry.
True Larry, but that's like saying I am the first to use DesignText.
Well aren't you? <grin>
Nope, second. Kris is #1.
BUG REPORT: Re: Overscan screens.
If you are trying to use and overscan screen, and it doesn't seem to want to
work – Move the screen using preferences AT LEAST ONE PIXEL over from the
extreme right. If the screen it at the extreme right you will get an overscan
screen, but it will only display the first 640 pixels – Sure shocked me when
the A500 did this to me! (Standard Workbench or RESET ALL in preferences
defaults to this setting).
Point #2 – The printer drivers that are supposed to work with the likes of
PageMaker (With the TRUSTME codes for developers) are located on the WorkBench
disk of the A500 (printer.device and he (the) printer drivers).
So, if you want the latest PRINTER.DEVICE, grab an A500 WorkBench and copy them
over to your system (A lot of the xxx.device programs are changed by a few
bytes – Bug Fixes I assume).
Maybe we ought to call it 1.2.1?

PS. Pegg Herrington, if you are reading this, CALL ME Monday re:Enigma!
