#Using new Zenith monitor

Pardon my intrusion, I've been away from this board for several months, but
can anyone tell me (as soon as possible) whether the new Zenith "perfect"
(flat tension mask) monitor is compatible with the Analog output of the
Amiga 1000, and if so, which cables/adapters I need and where I can get
same? Any and all information, including word from people who are using
this arrangement, will be very much appreciated! Thanks, <MR>
Mark, I am not familiar with the monitor, but if it supports RGB-A, then it
will work with the AMiga. You dealer should be able to make a suitable
cable. Just a thought…in the (hope to be) near future, CBM will issue a
new Fat Agnes chip that will support 320×400 and 640×400 NON-Interlaced
resolutions. If you want to take advantage of these NON-Interlaced
resolutions, you will need a Multisync type monitor.
Greg, thanks very much for the *fast* reply. I know the Zenith is capable
of working with varying scan rates, and is VGA capable, but I don't know
anything about the new chipset you mention or how itmight work with the
Zenith. If you or anyone can tell me, including if the chipset is going to
be available for the 1000 and if so how to get it, I'd be much obliged. I
have the chance to get a demo Zenith for very cheap, and it looks great,
but would like full compatibility with future and present video modes on
the Amiga as well. (at leasst for the near term)–any and all help really
appreciated! (and glad to be back, the MSDOS world I've had to concentrate
on is soooo dull!)–<mr>
Mark, If the Zenith can handle VGA it's a multi-sync monitor.
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that the new chipset will be usable in the
A1000. After it's release (sometime this year, no one but CBM knows for
sure and they aren't talking — at least not publicly) there might be some
enterprising 3rd party company that will come out with a way to use the
chip set in the 1000, but it won't be compatible 'off the shelf'.
Steve, my understanding is that multisyncs and VGAs are entirely separate
beasts, that the VGA drives a VGA monitor at different resolutions but that
the complex multisync circuitry is somehow left out of the monitor. Not
positive, but fairly sure I read that recently. It's not an easy thing to
try to live in two worlds at once! Thanks again for the assist… <mr>
