#Soundscape Sample Format

I, too, would be interested in converting instruments to SoundScape
format. I was considering purchasing Aegis AudioMaster, in the hopes that
since it can use Mimetic's sampler, that it could do the conversion. Do you
have any experience/knowledge about that package? Anyway, I would appreciate
hearing how anybody does the conversion without resampling.

Well, I can't say as how I'm enamoured with AudioMaster. The user interface
is simple to comprehend, but it's so simple that it makes doing some things
difficult, like small-scale editing of a digitized waveform. Some things
which had been impossible before, like resampling, it makes a snap; other
things which should be easy (and ARE easy with, say, the Perfect Sound
editor) are nigh onto impossible. The package won't let you zoom in to the
point that you can make out individual points on the waveform. There are
bugs in the way the mark sliders are implemented. And so on. In summary, no
one has written THE editor yet. But AudioMaster is a good try.
Anyway, to the issue at hand: I haven't tried using AudioMaster for the port
yet. I'm looking at other avenues just now, including a simple hack that you
just use to filter the sample data. Any program that will load a DMCS file
and saves IFF, however, should be able to do the transfer.

Thanks again for your comments, I was under the impression, from
reviews, etc, that AudioMaster was MUCH more powerful than you suggest! I'll
give it a workout at the store before I buy it. Now, how about Synthia?

AudioMaster is alright, Nick. It's just that I was expecting (well, hoping)
for THE audio tool… and AudioMaster isn't it. At least not for me.
As for Synthia, it is darned impressive, and I'm working on a review for AC
on it just now. There are a few things that AudioMaster does that Synthia
doesn't… but there are far more of the obverse cases. Between these two
and the Perfect Sound and SoundScape sampler packages, I find I can do most
of the things I need to do. Now if someone will put it all together in one
"box" so I don't have to shuffle files and programs…
