Ed (or Fred); I installed the LazerXpress PAL into my controller for the Amiga 1000. Being the 'chicken' fellow that I am, I thought that I would first try the LazerXpress printer directly on the Amiga 1000 before trying anything like 'sharing.' It did not work. I thought…. 'self, even though this cable have never been used and it is the cable that came with the controller on the Amiga 1000, it is just possible that it is bad.' Thus, shut down the Amiga 2000 (again), borrowed the SCSI cable and tried the Amgia 1000 yet a second time, to no avail. Since the message was 'Check printer or Paper' I though that I would be real brave……. shut everything down, connected the Amiga 2000 to the LazerXpress printer using the first cable tried with the Amiga 1000 and left the 1000 connected. Interestingly enough, the Amiga 2000 still prints to the printer just fine but the 1000 still it unable to do so. The host address on the 2000 is 7, on the printer is 3 and on the 1000 is 6 (though it was seven when tried alone with the printer). DevInstall, LaserSetUp file, all drivers and handlers were copied directly from the operating Amiga 2000 to the 1000. No error messages are seen when devinstall runs (though there was the first time since I had not installed the PAL at that point). Any ideas? What next? =>73<=, bill }KB7LX @ WA4LPD{

Bill: Try to access the Hard Drive from the A-1000 this will tell you if the SCSI/1000 is o.k. If it is, and if you can talk to the HD then the cable must be at fault. E.J. Lippert II C Ltd. – (316) 267-0202

Ed: Thats not very simple since the HD is not on the bus. Maybe later, I will see if I can move the HD to the C-Ltd SCSI bus. I don't see how it can be the cable since the cable works just fine on the A-2000 (both of them do). =>73<=, bill }KB7LX @ WA4LPD{

bill, Did you check your Lpref settings? If disable is highlighted on output to printer, that might stop it from printing, however it didn't stop it when I was printing to the V.P. with pagestream. If devinstall worked then the PAL must have what it was looking for or it would have aborted. chris

Chris: When I first set things up, I had not changed the PAL and did indeed get an error message from devinstall. Changed the PAL and devinstall worked ok (mind you that this is precisely the same setup file that is on the A2000 -for that matter so is everything else associated with the C-Ltd stuff). When making the print request by doing something like 'dir >prt:' a bit of disk activity takes place and then a requester come up saying 'check printer or paper.' Nothing had changed but it would not print (I even tried continue). Then I got brave (foolish?) changed the SCSI device number on the 1000 and hooked all three together (1000, 2000 and LazerXpress). Still same results except that A2000 print requests worked fine (and it had the longer cable too). =>73<=, bill }KB7LX @ WA4LPD{

bill, then the printer should work.So you did change your scsi address for the A1000 and set it's preferences for the printer driver? (I'm sure you have though) How about the Lpref settings? Does it say LazerXpress in the Vp name to use? Disable Output to printer gadget deselected? I'm at a loss at figuring out what's wrong, guess you'll have to get Ed on the landline. chris

Chris: I am going to try again….. the files were copied directly from the A2000 to the A1000 and then the SCSI host address was changed to 6 (after the attempt at 7 with the LazerXpress hooked up only to the A1000). Since I did not look at the Lpref settings, I am going to do that just incase I failed to copy the file. I really think that there is something wrong with the controller now though. I am about to do another test by checking a drive that would not work on the A1000. I have it hooked up to the A2000 and will try mounting it and formatting it to see if there really is something wrong with the drive or not. Thanks for the suggestions, will let you know. =>73<=, bill }KB7LX @ WA4LPD{
