This store doesn't have 1 meg. It was shipped, but was apparently
"intercepted", i.e. stolen. SW Etc. at first wouldn't replace it despite the
main store having four unused ones. Now the regional rep. came down and agreed
to send the card. I guess I could create a "slide-show" with something simple
like superview and show some of the images on disk 2 of the NewTek Demoreel.

I uploaded a file called SHOWIZ2.ARC that you should check out if you want a
very nice slide show/presentation tool. It can even combined digitized sound
files into the presentation, show text files, has lots of fades and wipes built
in…. I think the author was crazy to keep it shareware because it is
professional quality work IMHO. I know it runs on 1000 and 2000 but not sure
about 500's. Check it out! You'll probably put superview on limited use
status after seeing ShoWiz.

Wayne, ShoWiz2 is here already in AmigaArts as SHOWIZ.ARC, I uploaded it
last Monday. I wouldn't get rid of SuperView just yet; it handles 2 kinds of
pictures that ShoWiz can't – pictures that are supposed to color cycle, and
pictures that are bigger than your screen. Jeff White (author of ShoWiz) knows
about this but didn't have time to include support for these types of pictures
in this version; probably next time. With ShoWiz's scripts though, you can
just use SuperView to show any color cycling or larger-than-screen pictures by
putting a line in the script that gives the command "SuperView [PicName]".

I guess they got a triple dose of ShoWiz. After taslking to J.L. I U/l'd the
test version from TBAG as SHOWIZ a while back. The J.L. called me and said he
officially released it with fixes to docs mainly so last week I u/l'd again as
SHOWIZ2.ARC as I didn't check to see if the old one made it or not.

How does SHOWIZ2.arc handle ham images. I know that the director can't
really do fade/wipes with them because of the nature of one pixel taken its
color from another. Is it smooth?

No Problemo!! I've set showiz to wiping and fadeing its way through a whole
directory fo HAM. Joel Salazar reportd that it wont so collor cycles pics or
superbitmaps but since you can use a script from showiz, just insert a call to
a program that can for the occassions when you need it. Not having much
occassion tocolor cycle or use superbitmaps (is that the right term for the
bigger than the screen stuff? [not overscan… bigger!!) I never ran into that
limitation.

I'm not talking about colorcycling or bitmaps, and I'm not questioning
that it can fade with HAMs, I'm just wondering if it has been written with
special routines to smoothly manipulate two HAM images, or does it streak

I haven't seen any phenomena that don't look like intentional parts of the
various fades that are the transition between images. But I'm not sure I would
recognize the streaking you refer to as I've not seen it with superview or
other viewers either.

Have you ever used a ham grpahics package like Photon Paint or Deluxe
PhotoLab. Whenever anything is moved, horizontal lines of strange colors
appear. To get rid of them, the program has to perform certain calculations to
set the colors correctly.

I have never used the packages you discribed. My HAMMING has bee limited to PD
show type programs.

Ethan, I know what you're talking about with HAM pics, but as far as I
know, there's no way on the Amiga to smoothly fade out one HAM pic into
another, _unless_ they have the same palette. This problem comes up when using
the Director too. You get really weird looking transitions between 2 HAM pics
unless they have the same palette.
If you specify one of these "illegal" wipes in ShoWiz, it ignores it and
uses a default wipe. ShoWiz is definitely worth checking out at any rate.

It is a terrific program, and I'm using it for a demo to my DP guy at work
tomorrow. I would like to see it support color cycling and snap cuts from
slide to slide (however, it permits you to run SuperView from within Showiz to
get those effects).
One tip: Showiz doesn't seem to be able to set the stack to handle animations.
I worked around this by having a Showiz script line that said "execute newshell
con:0/0/1/1/a from fanta" (I'm using ARP's AShell). "Fanta" is a script file
which says "stack 20000
fantaplayer dino
endcli"
"Dino" is the script file that tells fantaplayer how to run the animation.
This works fine, provided you put a "delay n" command in the Showiz script
right after the "execute newshell" line, where "n" is the number of seconds it
takes to run the animation.

I'll forward your comments to the author. He may decide to include some fixes
to deal with the situation you mentioned.
BTW, did you try using a STACKSIZE gadget in the icon or are you striclty cli?

The stacksize in the icon did not work. I could run it from Showiz by setting
the stack in a cli first, and then running Showiz from that cli. Or I could
have Showiz run it from an icon the way I described. I not, however, have
Showiz run it from an icon directly, no matter how high I set the stack in the
icon info requester — & I can set a big stack, I have five megs.

Is there an example in the forum libs here of a file that ShoWiz has trouble
with? I'd like to give it a try on my machine. I can also forward the file to
the author who may be able to fix the problem in an upgrade.

Gabe and I took a quick-and-dirty demo disk I cooked up to the SW-ETC. at 53rd
and 5th Ave. It ran just fine on their A500, and the store manager was quite
impressed. I had it play music under two slide shows, do an Amiga "say"
voice-over for another, and had it run a Fantavision animation with sound. The
whole thing was controlled by Journal, and was set up so you just booted from
that disk, and sat back and watched as it cylced through the four different
sections of the demo. This was all on one disk (two four-voice instrumental
pieces, the animation and about 30+ "slides").

Ray, the SWEtc I frequent is on 53rd bet. 3rd and Lex., so we're right
next to each other. I've been to the one you mention, and I think they have 1
meg. I'll bring in the NewTek demo and show it to them. If they liked your
quicky demo, this'll throw 'em off balance! I'll mention your name. If you stop
by my SWEtc, just mention mine. They'll know me, I'm the pest who keeps coming
over to make sure they buy the right software. I also keep turning off the
IIgs, but that's another story! 8^>

That's interesting. I work on 51st Street and Lex., right by the Citicorp
center. (For those that don't know NYC, that's the strange looking building in
all the commercials with the slanted roof. Made of aluminum). Maybe we've
passed each other and didn't know it. (Gabe, you out there???)

As I said, it's quick and dirty at this point. Gabe and I were going to clean
it up, but haven't had a chance to get together for about a month. Now I'm
going to Texas for 11 days.
Also, it used a number of visuals etc. "borrowed" from disk magazines and CI$
PD/Shareware. Our intent is to a) get permission for each and every thing we
use, and b) put a scrolling credit section at the end.
If you'd like, however, I can create a brief slideshow-with-music "module", arc
it, and upload it to show how this can all be coordinated, so you can make your
own. Let me know if that makes sense.

Ray, if you don't have them, I can give you the individual pics from the
NewTek demo. Also, I have several sounds files, including the Sonix songs
thriller, maniac and owner of a lonely heart. I have several digitized sounds,
including the princess bride quotes available here. Maybe we could meet up
sometime, considering how close we are midday.

Ahhh. I am glad you are trying to get permission for the stuff included in the
demo. Seems like alot of programs "borrow" stuff from other programs these
days… And yes, I'd like a brief slideshow-with-music module to see how I can
coordinate all of this stuff, if it's not too much trouble…

Send me a message via Easyplex vis a vis wanting that slideshow-with-music
module, so it will still be there when I get back from the Kerrville Folk
Festisval. It will serve as a reminder. A lot of stuff here on the fora will
be gone by then, and I do want to send up something like that when I get back.
