on the printing I called tech. support. the asked me for my phone number…
and that was the end of that…now aren't they supposed to be reading
these messages and tell us whether they read it or not ? better to give us
the answer to our problem ?
Your lack of memory problem when printing dot-matrix is due to a need for CHIP
memory. I went through this with Gold Disk before. I've tried printing to
both Calcomp Colormaster and Tektronix 4693D printers without success. It seems
that ppage allocs a rastport in which it constructs a bitmap to be sent to the
printer. Since ppage is a rather memory intensive program there isn't much
CHIP memory left for the bitmap. It has to print in strips instead. The
problem with this is what happens to color printers such as the Calcomp and Tek
where this is a cyan ribbon pass, magenta, yellow and then possibly a black
ribbon pass (for the tek) to produce the color image. The strips force parts
of the picture to print on seperate pages! The techie at Gold Disk I talked to
about this didn't think this would be fixed by 1.2

what not then use the floppy…or better yet a HardDisk…this is almost
standard practice even on DOS machines…

That doesn't solve the problem of printing in strips. Sure it
would be the first step towards a workaround. However, you would then have
to go into the dump file and manually recombine the strips into their
respective ribbon passes. This would be more appropriate to leave to a
program to do it for me, but I don't have much of a need to do color this
way at the moment.
