Somebody said they were going to upload the manual to DNet. Can that person
please get it up real soon. I don't want to download the source file just for
the manual!

Kelly, (and ALL), I'll u/l a file tonight. (DNETDC.ARC) It has the DOC files
from release 2.02 of DNET.

Claude – 2.02! The version up here is 2.01. What is the difference between
the two versions?
Actually, I don't need the doc files now! Yesterday I actually received my
V1I6 disk from TransAmi!!
But for all the others on here, thank you for the upload.

Kelly, It probably is 2.01.03.. I got it from ucbvax on 4-13-89. It has the
dbbs modules and password support.
BTW. Matt Dillon posted a message on UseNet that his Dnet/Un*x net.server was
available on ucbvax. It is a preliminary, 'buggy', NFS server. I e-mail'ed him
a comment about the amiga/Dnet/net.server from Software Distillery, and his
reply was that he was aware of it, but that it was 'different'. I guess that it
doesn't fit in with his plans for Dnet. (not quite NFS). Still, it seems to
work.

Is there any way to use DNET to network with an IBM or other system?

Michael, Dnet was written to connect UN*X BSD4.3 boxes to an Amiga. As it is a
symmetrical system, (the same programs are used on both systems), it works for
two Amigas also. I beleive that it has been run on a SYS-V (AT&T) box, and on a
Ultrix (DEC) system also. It is written in 'C', so, if the IBM has the 'hooks'
in its OS, it may be possible to get it to work. I don't know.

Sorry, I still catching up on DNET. Do you mean Matt has (or is working on) a
software set that will allow an Amiga to appear to a Unix net as aother NFS
machine (through the serial port?)? Does it require software on the Unix end?
(It sounds like it runs on top of DNET and so I would assume it requires some
handler on the Unix end…)

Paul, the DNET-NFS handler is a DNET module. You must have DNET running on the
UN*X system. It is an 'Alpha' release, and is very buggy, but others are
working on it.

Well, if anybody read that message, my urgency for the dnet manuals has finally
been solved – the long awaited V1I6 TransAmi disk finally showed up friday!
The version of DNet on the disk is V2.00, so what we have up here is slightly
newer (V2.01), but the big difference is the smaller code size for the
executables in the DNet file up here.
