The preview I received happened on a Zeinith Flat Screen. Very nice, and as a floor model, the price compared with an Ultra 14.

Paul, Curious: the first time you saw the flatscreen, did windows and other straight-sided objects seem to be "curved inward" on each side? I know sometimes they take getting used to, after using only curved-glass monitors all these years. ? thx – kev

I felt like I was falling into the monitor for days. But now I love it – of course, looking at a "normal" monitor makes me feel like I'm being pushed away, but I can live with that. :^) Ben Amateur Radio Callsign is A A 7 A S

Ben, I had the pleasure of seeing the 3000 and OS 2.0 demo'd on the Zenith flat screen monitor yesterday. The illusion of the screen being concave is very strong for a while. But the quality of the image was beautiful! Especially the intensity of the color. My impression was that the new multisync monitor from CBM is slighty 'sharper' than the Zenith which is a fixed frequency unit, but colors were not as bright or vivid on the CBM. Have you seen them side by side? Any opinion re either as to suitability for DTP. I'm going to get the 3000 when it's available in June. Rich

No, I have not – and I've also not seen my Zenith running with the ECS line densities, IE >640, sorry. All I know is I like it a lot. Ben Amateur Radio Callsign is A A 7 A S

Vic, I saw the 3000/2.0, C= 1950 monitor at Century Computer in La Habra. I gave them a deposit on the spot! The whole package is so professional. The 2.0 GUI is great. I never used to use WorkBench. I probably will with 2.0. The press is giving the 3000 incredible coverage. Something that _never_ happened with C= or Amiga before. I think this thing is going to take off like nothing we have experienced before. The developer interest is going to make our heads spin. C= has done so much so _right_ with this effort it's scary! The _only_ reservation that I have is that early buyers are going to wish they had waited about six months when additional physical configurations come out. That is, a tower configuration. C= has done this to us so many times, made profit on the early buyers before making obvious improvements (a la the 1000). I think there _will_ be a tower version with greater physical expansion capability. And the tower version will be _the_ configuration for a business environment. Oh well, it's hard to really quibble – the price of this thing, considering it's real capabilities is so damn low. Rich

I think they probably will come out with other configurations Rich, but I am going to revel in the use of this baby for a fair while before they do, and especially so, since what I need in the way of slots/expansion is all there in the initial configuration. You are going to love it. As you say, they did a LOT of things right. -larry

Richard, Century Computer has said that they will bring their A3000 to the next Amiga Friends meeting and demo it, 2.0, and AmigaVision. The meeting will be on May 20, 1990 1300-1600 at our regular place (Russell Hall, Rancho Santiago College). Victor A. Wagner, Jr.

Vic, I really think you'll love the demo. The machine/OS are dynamite. The guys from Century are nice people. It's kind of them to take time on their day off to give the club a demo. I hope I can be there. Rich

As a matter of fact, things did look "curved inward" I've been using "normal" (outward curving screens since I was twelve. The flat screen was a perspective bender, alright!

GRIN. A friend has a flat screen and swears by it. Looked good to me too, except (as Ben said so well) I felt like I was falling into it… made my eyes freak out. So how long does it take to get used to it? Guess I'll have to get one sooner or later! thx – kev

I've no idea how long it takes to "normalize" oneself. The monitor belongs to an aquaintence of mine. If I had to hazzard a guess, I'd guess it would take no more than a day or so (assuming good chunks of time per sitting). Good luck, {=-} Paul
