#8MB memory for A1000

Hi everybody! I was wondering if any of you might be able to tell me if there are any 8MB memory expansions available for the A1000. I was looking through my catalogs for one the other day, and the biggest I could find was 2MB (except for one my buyers guide said went in an expansion box). Any info you could provide me would be greatly appreciated. -Helmer-

Xetec's fastram fits on their fasttrak HD and gives 8Meg with 4Meg SIMMs. 4 meg Simms aren't cheap so this might not be your best option.

Thanks, Phil. That's the one my buyers guide said fit in an external chassis, so it wouldn't have done me any good anyway (It will probably be a long time before I can afford a Hard Drive). Does anyone know of any other 8MB expansions for the A1000, or is that the only one? If so, is there *any* way to get beyond the 2MB barrier? You should be able to get a ToolBox (2 card expansion chassis) plus an 8MB A2000 memory board and still have room to add a hard disk in the ToolBox. I am not sure (and maybe someone else here knows), but the GVP 8Meg board might work with the ToolBox. I also remember reading somewhere that Supra helped Expansion Technology redesign the ToolBox, so Supra's SupraRam 2000 should work with the ToolBox. Of course, we are talking about 1 grand plus for 8Megs and a ToolBox BobS

Thanks, Bob. I am considering some kind of expansion chassis now, although I am undecided between the ToolBox and BusExpander (which has more slots). I am also thinking of settling for the Rejuvenator, which would give me enough memory for now, and some other advantages to help me 'keep up with the pack'.

I believe Xetec is now offering their FastRam card with a SCSI option. This would let you buy the memory (which hooks to the 1000's expansion port) and add a SCSI inteface and HD later. Their 'chasis' as opposed to the SCSI interface and or ramcard, is really a box with power supply and fan that can hold a HD. It is possible to buy the SCSI interface and or Fastram board and or the chassis and use it without a hard drive. In other words you would have an empty chasis sitting around waiting to eventually get a hard drive. The Fastram card may now be available without the SCSI port and chasis. I'd be careful going the ToolBox route; some 1000s have a lot of trouble with them. Make sure you can rget a refund if it doesn't work. This is probably a product best bought locally!!!

Thanks for the info, Phil. I'll look into that option more thoroughly, and see what I can find out. I had just about given up hope of finding anything without buying a full expansion box (which would probably cost more than I can afford right now). Of course, I'm still not sure I'll ever need more than 2MB, so I need to give that some more thought, also. Thanks again for all the help.
