Any comparison between this video and real life is probably useless, on
a number of points! <chuckle>
The only nice thing it did was give those of us that knew nothing of the
3000 a preview of what the inside of the thing looked like, as well as a
glimpse of 2.0. In short, it was a tiny help to those of us that are
already interested in the short time that we couldn't see a 3000; to lure
in new users, it was horrendous.
The initial premise that the guy's computer with his work on it was just
hauled off sets the whole thing off on the wrong (frightening!) tone.
Attempting to show "multitasking" by just going around and enabling each of
several static windows in turn was embarassing. (Maybe they couldn't find
enough things that would multitask together under 2.0?)
I'm not one of those people who complain about any advertising attempt
made by CBM; the video made a lot of good points, but was heavily
compromised by a stupid script. A shame.
Maybe we should all don ski masks and set out to secretly destroy all
those tapes!

Showing multitasking to non-amiga users requires a special effort on
planning what to do. Sometimes I get the feeling that those silly demos
were scripted by someone from the other side, ie., someone who uses a
computer that doesn't multitask and really doesn't understand how
*INCREDABLY* useful it really is…

Is it POSSIBLE that the tape was meant as a joke? It obviously is a
joke (literally). I haven't seen it so I don't know. Is it conceivable that
it was meant to be dumb as a joke? (just optimisic hopes)

No, enough time, effort and money went into it that I'm sure that it was
intended seriously. And it does not do a terrible job listing the A3000
features, necessarily, it's just the silly, chatty, implausible situation
that they try to set up that makes it kinda dumb. It was helpful to those
of us that know the Amiga already find out a little about the 3000 the week
before it arrived in the stores, but that's about it. It would be bad
enough showing something of that calibre to a potential 500 owner that may
or may not make an impulsive buy in a store. But a potential 3000 owner I
picture as being more savvy and insulted by the tone of the tape.

Sure, we can call ourselves "United Amiga Front" and don Boing jackets,
walk into Amiga dealer's wearing those ski masks and conduct raids,
destroying the A3000 video, leaving behind a diskette with a script reading
our statement using the Amiga's voice saying something like:
"WE THE USER'S of the multitasking Amiga, in order to form a more perfect
image, establish talent, ensure domestic marketing, provide for the
business user, promote the operating system and secure the blessings of
applications to ourselves and our posterity do ordain and establish this
action for the United Amiga Front."
