COMMODORE HIRES NOLAN BUSHNELL
(May 8)
Commodore International Ltd. of West Chester, Pa., has named Nolan
Bushnell to the the post of general manager of Computer Interactive
Products.
Bushnell, who founded Atari Inc., will head a special team to develop,
coordinate and market interactive consumer products for Commodore's Amiga
computers. The group will provide overall direction for these products to
the consumer sales and marketing arms of Commodore operating subsidiaries.
Prior to joining Commodore, Bushnell founded Vent Inc. to develop
multimedia products.

Gee, that's interesting! Sounds like he's working on the mystery CD-ROM
computer.
John,
Could be, but if you look at Bushnell's record after he sold Atari to
Warner, he doesn't have the best track record around (ie, Axlon, Chuckie
Cheese, various others).
I know, I know… makes him sound like the perfect CBM employee, huh? Can
we have a contest, to bet how long he lasts? 🙂 I'd bet he'll be around
for 9 months.
True, but from what I've read about the man, I think that's more because
he's more an ideas person than marketeer. I'd trust him to develop a neat
project, but not to try and sell it. <grin>

If you can find a copy of USA TODAY for May 9, you'll see a mention of that
on page 2B too. They say his title is "+_9al [X7ager of Consumer
Interactive Products". He's quoted in the article as saying, "What we're
talking about here is the blending of video, high-quality sound and
computer graphics where a person is in control of content and presentation.
A person becomes active instead of passive".
It also says that we'll be getting first peeks at the CES show in Chicago
in June.

Since you mentioned CES, would you happen to know where in Chicago it's
being held? I'm going to be in Chicago for two weeks around that time, and
I plan to catch both CES and AmiExpo (I know where AmiExpo will be). Thanks
..
Harry
Harry,
Sorry, I have no idea where in Chicago CES is going to be. Perhaps one
of the folks around here does….?
Steve
It's at McCormick, as usual.

McCormick … Hotel? Convention Center? Hmmmm … Maybe the relatives
I'll be seeing up there can get me there. Thanks for the info.
Harry
McCormick PLACE! On the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan! When you hit
town ask anyone where it is. They'll show you the way. It's south of the
Loop and right by Soldier's Field on Lake Shore Drive.
It is a huge convention center, south of Soldier Field.

Oh, OK. Between you and Tim I get the picture 8^). I've never been to
Chicago before (nor to a CES) and thus was unfamiliar with the territory.
Now if I can just wrangle a business card outta somebody …
Harry
Craig:
Any idea how a mere "consumer" might get admission to CES ???
