I am looking for any kind of plans for builting sound digitizing hardware
for the Amiga 2000 and good software to go with it. If anyone has info on
this subject or knows someone who does please drop me a note.

Lorne– I'm new to Amiga and can't answer your question, but I'd love to
know what you find out. I'm very interested in sampling sound with the
Amiga 1000 or 2000. I thought there were fairly cheap sampling boards out
there for the Amiga. Have you run into this sort of thing and found them
unsatisfactory? If I find out anything more I'll let you know. -Bruce

The Amiga doesn't, to my knowledge, use sound sampling "boards". Most of
the current sound sampling hardware is external, and hooks onto the
parallel port. Prices range from about $60 to three times that, depending
on features, etc.
Amiga native sound is 8 bit, and is pretty good. But it is not CD quality.
That would require 12 or 16 bit. There has been some disucssion of
creating a 12 or 16 bit board and/or external sampler for the Amiga, but I
don't know of any actually out there. It would require both input and
output capabilities, of course, since the synth chips inside the Amiga can
only handle up to 4 channels of 8 bit sound, in stereo (two channels on
each side).
BTW — there are 16 bit sound manipulation packages out for the Amiga, but
they are for editing sound samples from external sampling units — like
sampling keyboards, etc., which are then used on that external device.

Ray– Thanks for the info. I don't think 8 bit sampled sound is going to
do it for me. 12 bit probably would{_. I'll probably be looking into
separate sampling synths to do the job and then edit on the Amiga. Then
you have midi control of the finished product, which is handy. If you hear
of any 12 or 16 bit unit for the Amiga please let me know. I'll do the

I am in communication with a cie "Beta ulimited " that are designing a n
external board for the amiga . It will be 16 bit and about 50k "sampling
rate " and the price could be 800 dollars [A [A
