Hey guys! I keep hearing that people in my area are using the newest Imagine. I'm sure these people have had 2.0 for quite a while. Have you released 3.0? If not, do you have a projected date? Am I for sure listed as a registered user? I upgraded a 1.0 version. Mathew Mower

"HEY GUYS…Guys. . .guys. . . " <-fading echo Seems like this forum has been empty for quite a while. I could be wrong, in fact I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think you will get any feedback from Impulse here. Then again I thought Newtek had pulled out of their forum, and they seem to be back. So who knows? …AutoPilot Engaged… -Paul-

Paul, Steve Gillmor's departure left a vacuum for a while which I was unable to fill while dealing with the effects of Hurricane Andrew on my home and business. However, as things get back to normal, I will be available online to answer as many questions as I can and relate your concerns to the gang at Impulse. –Rick Rodriguez

Glad to have you back online! Steve

Steve, glad to be here. –Rick

I am very glad that I WAS wrong, and glad that we again have an Impulse presence here! BTW I am also sorry to here that Andrew has caused you trouble. Besides the human told Andrew also took out the the Weeks Air Museum – a collection of rare aircraft. Good thing you don't live next to Tamiami Airport. You might have wound up with a B-17 fuselage in you back yard. Andrew blew it 1.5 miles from the airport!

Oh but Paul, I DO live next to Tamiami Airport!!! Actually, I'm about ten blocks away, but the same winds that blew planes all over trashed mine and my neighbors' roofs and fences. –Rick Rodriguez

Rick, Ten blocks, wow! Then I guess you COULD find airplane parts in your back yard! The tower operators abandoned ship when the wind hit 185mph, and unofficially it was clocked in excess of 210mph! No wonder you lost your roof. Well I hope both you and the Weeks Air Museum are starting to get the "pieces back together again". …AutoPilot Engaged… -Paul-

Rick, How's the status of Imagine for the IBM? Joe
#49398From: Stan Kalisher (Impulse)Jan 4, 1993 8:08 AM
Joe, the program should be completed shortly. I'll post info as soon as I have it. –Rick

Real nice to see your name again Rick! Hope that Andrew didn't do any serious (?) damage to you personally. I'm sure a lot of folk (me too) will be glad to have your Imagine support here again. Re the PC version of Imagine 3.0…. any idea of when that is due? I'm curious to see how it looks… ttfn –jp–seattle–

The PC version of 2.0 is almost finished. The idea is to have 3.0 available on both the AMiga and PC simultaneously. Andrew was a major pain, causing four months of "homelessness" (save for the kindness of family and friends) and providing an instant degree in home reconstruction. But fortunately, my wife and kids are okay and it's almost behind us. –Rick Rodriguez

Imagine 3.0 has not been released and no firm date has yet been set. Rest assured that you will be among the first to know once the product is close to shipping. –Rick Rodriguez

I am very disappointed that you are focusing your attention on the PC market while we Amiga users languish awaiting a new version. It's been 2 years now hasn't it!?!?!?!?!? I realize that you need to expand your market and grow and it would be foolish not to consider the market size. HOWEVER, if "as soon as the PC version is done, we'll work on yours" has become your motto, I'll need to find another rendering program (company). I'm not yet prepared to become a second class citizen who lusts after other platforms programs hoping that someday I'll get some crumbs from the PC table! I need and demand that those who get my business give me the tools to be the best in the market. If all software producers follow this lead, we might as well pack it up and buy a Mac or a PC (then we'll all be blind sheep)

If Impulse is as dedicated to the Amiga market place as I believe they are, development for the IBM version will lead to potentially higher profit margin, and therefore more money for R&D, and hopefully some of the profit from the IBM version will bankroll some Amiga development work.

Matt, no need to feel this way. The plan is for Amiga development to lead the way and Impulse has great plans for future releases. But financially, Impulse can't continue to ignore the PC. The last six months have been slow because the company has to "catch up" to get the PC product out. Once this version is released, development should return to a normal schedule. –Rick Rodriguez

Rick, I can't resist: Is part of Impulse's "catching up to the PC market" finding someone to write a decent manual? Their Amiga versions would (original Mike versions) would get some mighty puzzled looks from the PC market, I'd think. Is all the code, for both Amiga and PC versions, being written so that porting it will be nearly trivial? Or will it take a while to come back to the Amiga? Just curious, Karl
#49769From: Stan Kalisher (Impulse)Jan 11, 1993 10:33 PM
Don't know much about the manual plans, but Mike tells me that the delay in Imagine PC has been due to creating a cross-compiler. Now that it's done, however, writing code for both machines simultaneously is a snap. What's neat is that Imagine behaves exactly the same on the PC as it does on the Amiga. I'm sure Windows users will go nuts when they realize they've got to relearn how to use their mouse! –Rick

Rick, Teehee. I've been using a 486 at work to lay out some circuit boards and I HATE the way they use mice on those systems. Left-button-brings-up-the-menu indeed! Yuk! I'm gonna giggle wildly when PC'ers have to start using a mouse with some smarts! I'm surprised they actually had to CREATE a cross-compiler. Such things have been existence for some time, haven't they? Definitely sounds like reinventing the wheel, but I'm sure they know what they're doing. Do you think that when 3.0 arrives for the Amiga, it will support AGA, since this is more or less equivalent to the VGA mode? Karl
#49840From: Stan Kalisher (Impulse)Jan 13, 1993 1:21 PM
Imagine 3.0 will definitely support AGA modes. –Rick BTW, I'm sure you know by now that I'm not a programmer or technical type, so don't hold me to the stuff about the cross compiler. I THINK that's what Mike Halvorson told me they were doing, but I may be all wrong. The good news is that the program's almost done and 3.0 will be coming probably by the end of the first quarter.
#49866From: Karl SparklinJan 13, 1993 10:01 PM
Rick, OK, that's fine. To be honest, I have an awful lot of 2.0 I haven't learned! The AGA support is probably the most awaited feature for me. Of course, I haven't heard a word about what they're putting in 3.0, so hopefully there'll be lots of new toys to play with. To be blunt, Imagine is starting to get some stiff competition and ain't the only bloke on the block anymore. I hope they're addressing some missing items in 3.0. (Of course they are; otherwise, why would there be a 3.0!?!) Karl
