Hi Perry,
Hey, I ran into something very intriguing while playing with TAD this
evening. I was working in 640×480 16-color mode with a converted GIF image
of a woman, but was unsatisfied with the tonal gradation of the woman's
skin…so I scaled the image down to 320×480 and switched into HAM. The
HAM version looked great so without any further processing I saved it.
Then, forgetting that the scaling had altered the 24-bit RGB data in
memory, I decided to give HiRes another shot…so I scaled the image up
again to 640×480. To my complete surprise the rescaled image looked
substantially better than the original! Color fidelity isn't quite as
accurate as with the HAM version, but for a 16-color image it's bloody
good. And if the image has lost any sharpness I certainly can't see it.
Wow!
TAD obviously did much more to my image during rescaling than just
double the horizontal resolution and reduce the colors. I won't ask what.
8^) This is amazing stuff, Perry. My jaw has hit the keyboard d*mn near
every time I've rendered an image with TAD. You guys have done a _superb_
job. Best $90 I've ever spent on software.

Thank you very much for the positive feed back. We have worked hard for a
very long time on the magic behind TAD and it makes us very happy to see
people finally getting a chance to make it strut its stuff.
Maybe you could send the message you wrote to LouWallace at Amiga World for
inclusion in their reader feedback section. So far, we've not had one image
processing related product that didn't get the short end of the review in
Amiga World.

Well, the AmigaWorld review of ScanLab/100 was kinda pointless: it had a
fair amount to say about how the product worked from a technical
standpoint, but almost nothing about how _well_ it worked. Go figure.
Let's hope they do better with TAD. Anyway, I'd be happy to send feedback
to Lou Wallace…or anyone else, for that matter. 8^)

BTW, if it had been possible, I would have reviewed scanlab/100 myself,
and it would have been somewhat more positive, but I was out of town a lot
that month and just didn't have time. Anyway, it's an excellent product
that offers a good solution for quality scanning at a very reasonable
price.

I wouldn't say that the AWorld review of ScanLab/100 was in any way
negative. It did seem to be strangely edited, tho: the review ended at the
point where I was expecting some evaluation of the software's rendering
capability. Anyway, I agree with your assessment of the product. It's
pretty nifty! I want one.
