meg versions by technical considerations. So I could get the 40 meg version
of an A3000, and swap the drive with the 80 meg I now have on the A2000.
Now the dillema: get an A3000 or accelerate the A2000 with the CBM A2630
(to keep sofware switchability of CPU's and be a little more secure about
ECS/WB 2.0 upgrade)? The dealer, knowing I want to head toward video (I
currently know next to nothing about it) thinks I'd be better off a
best put off for a year to 18 months to give the 68030/wb2.0 only
environment time to settle out, and allow more time for 68000 only type p
is way in front of me because I hang out there a bit and help them
occasionally get packages running that they are unfamiliar with so they

The video slot on the A3000 is not compatible with the A2000 video slot
as I recall. May not be able to get the 'Real Nifties' for an A3000 for
video for a few months.

The 3000's video slot is electrically compatible with the 2000's. The form
factor is different. However, the 3000 is shipped with a mechanical
adapter plate that allows existing peripherals to be adapted. This works
if the 2000 video card was built exactly to the mechanical specifications
in the A500/A2000 Technical Reference Manual. Many existing peripherals
violated the mechanical specification by placing connectors outside of the
designated region. If a 2000 video card will not fit/work in a 3000 it is
not because CBM created an incompatibility but because the card
manufacturer did not follow the "rules".

The Video slot is compatable totally, BUT (you knew that was coming) the
space for video cards is different according to a C= tech I spoke to at
World of Amiga show he said that card that went beyond the published size
spec and took advantage of the space under the drive bays won't physically
fit into the A3000 (the Toaster, and SuperGen 2000s unfortunately fall into
this catagory).

Thanks for the video info. If I go for the A3000 it will be a few months
for the budget to recover enough to get the nifties..(I've got some advice
that says to use the dough for the Toaster and a decent S-VHS editting deck
now, A3000 next year – decisions, decisions….)
