Has anyone heard any more on Absoft's AmigaBasic Compiler that they showed at
the Developer Fair? This is a great idea and I hope that others step in and
work on a basic cmpiler too.
I live pretty close to Absoft and keep in touch. Their Amiga Basic compiler is
getting pretty close to beta version now, at which point I'm supposed to get a
copy, so I'll let you know. There are still some minor issues that have to be
resolved like, what to do about the bugs in Basic? Emulate them, fix them,
ignore them? The biggest reservation I have is the price (supposed to be $200
?) and the run-time licensing ( I don't know if that's settled). At any rate,
their Mac version is out know (and being sold by Apple), so we're next in line.
Yea, $200 is a bit steep. If they fix the bugs (accessing peripherals-my
biggest complaint) it would be nice. Do you know if the compiler is
interactive or are we going to have to put up with compile-time errors as a
result of incorrect coding? I worked with HP 9845 and the 9000 which both have
interactive compilers and consider interactive programming the best. Thanks
for the reply. Michael
I'm afraid that you're going to have to shake out the bugs with the interpreter
first. The compiler has pretty much the same interface as their Fortran
compiler, if you're at all familiar with that. While it allows for a number of
compile-time options, it's definitely not what you'd call interactive. As for
the price, they're new in the Amiga market and they don't know what to expect.
Let them know how you feel about it.
