We've been using the Oxxi Novell software for some time and it's
"wonderful". Although we do not (yet) have a Mac on the net, I expect few
difficulties when we DO add one.
Did I read that right that you are using some kind of Novell software? I
wouldn't be so bold as to ask if that is on an Amiga (seeing as how this is
an amiga forum). Can it be that someone has some software that will let an
Amiga attach to and access a Novell network?????!!!!!!

Actually, most of the Amiga Network cards appear to be about the same price
as their DOS counterparts… 8-bit Arcnet cards (for DOS) are considerably
cheaper, but then.. that's what you're buying, too.
Today must be Sunday. I never could get the hang of Sundays.
Maybe MSRP, but "real" prices are a bit different, I think. I think you
can get a 16-bit PC Ethernet card for ~$175.00. C= charges about $275.00,
no?
I could be wrong, the print in those Creative Computers ads is awful
small..

That $275.00 buys you a lot for that C= Ethernet controller, not that least
of which is client mode NFS, and numerous Internet servers. I'm not aware
of anything like that for that price for the PC. On the PC, an equivalent
system costs quite a bit.
On the other hand, for less money (like *free*) you can get NCSA Telnet/FTP
for the PC card, but you have to put up with lower performance, and a bug
or three in the software.
I've used both, and I'm very happy with what Commodore offers, especially
for NFS.

Are you saying that C= actually bundles some SW with this piece of HW?
News to me. But then I haven't _seen_ any of it myself. I only know what
I read in the funny papers…..

Now that I think about it, I think you're right….the SW doesn't come with
the HW. (Sorry about that! It's been a long time since we bought that
stuff at work!) It does cost more to get software with equivalent
functionality for the PC (probably because of NFS) though. Last time I
checked, PC-NFS cost about $500 or so. But, as I said in a previous
message, if you don't need NFS, there are free TCP/IP implementations
floating around.

I dunno from MSRP… I just know from the wholesaler from whom I was going
to buy PC Ethernet cards, the price was $219.

C= never released "their" netware client SW — which would have been a
repackaged Oxxi product any way……
CBM did not release the AS220 software??
