Tape Backup

I found part of a thread about a tape backup, but can't finr the original msg… Does anyone have tape backup info for the Amiga? Brand names, model #'s and prices would be a great help! Thanks Chris

I use a MAC manufactures tape drive (EMAC Impact 150) with a TEAC mechanism. works great using TAR or QB 5.0

List is way up there… about a thousand bucks. I think street price is in the $400-$800 range, depending on capacity. Oh yeah, DAT drive work too, that costs some buck though $1000-$2000 !!!! A DAT will backup either 1.4 gigabyte or over 5 gigabyte (depending on type) and does it about three times faster than a standard tape drive. My unit 150MB TEAC mechanism from EMAC will backup in the 3-4MB per minute range. Hope this helps! -Jonathan

I've been using an Archive Viper 250S SCSI tape drive with MoonLighter Software Development's AmiBack on the 3000 for quite some time. I actually bought the drive marketed by the people who did the Nexus SCSI controller as Sidewinder 250. At the time, it cost me about $800.00. MoonLighter is selling refurbished ones for quite a bit less. I've been using the 250MB tapes with no problems and a friend used it to back up about 340MB on one tape. AmiBack has performed flawlessly and the support from MoonLighter has been excellent. I haven't tried QuarterBack 5.0 yet as it hasn't blessed my mail box yet however the local computer store used QB5.0 with Commodore's 3070 tape drive on both a 3000 and GVP 40MHz 030 equipped 2000 with no problems. Not sure on the price of the 3070 though. Others are using TEAC drives. My experiences are quite positive. There is NO way I'd back up 250MB on floppies, even if I can go high density on the floppies! 🙂 Dan McCoy – via Whap! and saving money doing it too!
