#Mars Image Needed

My editor at AmigaWorld would like to add some Mars images to my follow-up
article on CD-ROM. Unfortunately, I don't have those nice Mars Orbiter
CD-ROMs. If someone could send me an interesting image or two, in a
portable or FITS format, I'd appreciate it, and I'll try to get you a
credit in the article. I'll probably reformat the image as a Toaster
framestore, that being the easiest way to send it to them in electronic,
deep-color format for a screen shot. Here's your chance for fame, or at
least a credit line in AW!

I have the 4 Viking Orbiter CDRoms. I just got a new version of the
Xetec software that will read the "unusual" 512byte/block format of the
discs. I don't have a working loader for these images other than copying to
a floppy and taking it to an MSdos machine. I don't have a CDRom drive
attached to a MSdos machine here. I am waiting for BBS to get their loader
more operational and am sending some Viking images to them. I will try to
locate a few good Mars images for you. Email your address and business

Try calling our tech support entity, Jean. We just got a CD-ROM and at
least one of the Mars disks. I'm not working directly on our CD project, so
I don't know exactly what we have, but Jean does. Our tech number is (805)
237-2311, and he's usually on line by 9am PDT.

You're doing a followup on your CD ROM article? Do you know of anyone
using the new Nec 'M' Series drives? I'm wondering whether they really
perform as fast as they say…

It's already in the bag. I haven't got my hands on an M drive, I've just
heard the specs, and estimate that they'll be very, very nice on high-speed
SCSI machines like the Amiga. However, I just don't see the applications
for the Amiga that would require such speed. Sure, loading any data
benefits from speed… but usually you're loading an image from a disc
that needs to be translated anyways, and wouldn't use the through-put, or
you're loading an LZH file of a Fish disk image, and that's not
time-critical. The animation-centered applications haven't surfaced for the
Amiga, other than CDTV titles.
