Want to hear from members knowledgeable about computer based desktop video
and audio editing (post-production) system for professional Video tape
production. Need help in selecting computer, hardware, software, VCR etc.
to edit HI8 videotapes for documentary and low budget video feature films
production.

I hate to be unhelpful but generally questions as broad as yours are
unanswerable. The system you described could cost a few thousand dollars
for a few million. If you're looking for general information you should get
hold of some of the many trade magazines such as AV Video, Video Systems,
or Videography.
One of the first things you must decide upon is your definition of
"professional" video production. On this forum alone you'll find several
different ideas of what "professional" is.
If you're interested in feature film/video making, I would recommend
purchasing a copy of Rick Schmidt's book "Feature Filmaking at Used Car
Prices."
Good luck.
