#GPFax software

Gracia,
Sorry for the great delay in replying to your message, I had been in Palm
Springs last week for business….
I'm still getting an extra page also when I send a FAX. Wonder where that
is coming from. I'll keep my ears peeled.
"Why iconify????", I read it once on this BBS and have since created a
habit, probably not necessary…
New problem today. I notice that the text that I compose on Final Copy II
and "print" to GpFax are now grainier, unlike before with a "CLEAN" print.
I don't know what I'm doing different.

Patrick,
Gee, what a shame, you HAD to go to Palm Springs! <giggle>.
I installed the official (?) patch which I got from here (?), and now get
only the page I want. Install docs were not too clear, but if you've been
around a little you can figure what goes where.
I'm firmly convinced computers have a life of there own and do things to
drive us nuts.
Gracia
Gracia,
I picked up the patch on GPFax, tried to install it and it didn't work.
Perhaps I did something wrong, but there has got to be an easier way to
add a patch to an upgrade. I prefer the "Install" program from CBM.
The electronic drug is computers. I admit that I am quite addicted.
Merry Christmas (belated)

There are 3 patches in the GPFax patch file that is here in one of the
Amiga fora. The ne from MODEMVEN only patches the Supra version. I had
bought my copy directly from Supra but found that I needed one of the
"generic" version patches instead. You might want to look for this other
set of patches (the file size is >200K) and try one of the other patches.
Harry
Thanks Harry, I'll give that file a try.

Harry,
I too bought my copy of GPFax from Supra (it came with the modem). Though
the program claims it is the 2.01 (2.5.92) it really is 2.21 the generic
version. This would be fine except only the Supra version supports silent
answer with the new roms. I am going to contact Supra on Monday,
hopefully I'll be able to get the correct version.

Paul,
Excuse me for butting in. How do you know it's not the Supra version? I
had V.2.01(2.5.92) from Supra with my modem and the docs. state that there
was only a Amiga version at that time. I found a patch here. When I ran
the patch, it was updated to V.2.21(2.12.92). The patch file had 2
versions, one for generic and one for Amiga. Do you have the new roms? How
do they work?

Basically, if the Supra-version patch works, you've got the Supra
version; if the generic patch works, you've got the generic version. I
tried asking both Supra and GPSoft if there was a way to tell what version
I had, as at one point no patches worked – I even left the file size and
timestamp info. Finally, I downloaded the file online here that had all 3
versions of patch and just tried until one worked.
Harry
Harry,
Did you send registration card to GPFax or assume that Supra card was all
inclusive?
Supra Amiga patch worked, so I guess I have Supra Amiga version. I didn't
put new font in, but it works very well. I must put in new Supra roms and
try answering machine/fax/phone setup. I also need to put in new speaker.
I like hearing progress of call, keeps me from being bored with long CI$
handshake <G>.

I just sent in the Supra card – the GPFax "card" is still in the
manual. Since I have the generic version, and am selling the Supra anyway,
I might just go ahead and send the GPFax registration in so I get notified
of new versions (like the Class 1 they're working on).
It's up to you, of course, but I'd go ahead and update the font as
well. I figure if they went to the trouble to include it in the patch they
probably had a reason 8^).
Harry
Harry,
Selling Supra? You don't like it? What is replacing it?
Gracia
Gracia –
I'm selling the Supra because I finally got the USR Dual Standard/Fax
that I'd ordered back before the hurricane. I originally got the Supra
because it had the speed for a good price (the fax was an extra I didn't
use before I had to start shipping off resumes) but then the deal for the
USR came along. I don't really need two V.32bis-capable modems, and I call
a few BBSs that use HST, so the Supra goes. Now I just need the Class 1
version of GPFax that's in Beta right now so I don't have to move the USR
to my PC clone to fax 8^).
Harry
Is it just me or do the rest of you feel that GPFax should have included a
way to FAX your registration card? That would allow you to test your fax
modem/software and register at the same time.

Gee, I hadn't thought of that. 'Course, I never think of the obvious
things 8^). But, they _are_ in Australia so the phone call could get kinda
pricey. I think I'll mention that to the guy I've been Internetting with
(I have to write him back anyway).
Harry
inclusive?
LOL… what a silly place to put a "warranty card", warranty *page* more
likely! So how did you find it!? Wow, good going … I'll have to get
that mailed out.
Thanks,

Silly moi, I actually read manuals…I don't understand them half the time
g>, but I do read them.
Your welcome,
Gracia
Patrick,
Makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one who has trouble with
some of the less than clear docs. I did get the patch to work (I think!),
but still have to put new font in.
Addicting, but keeps you off the streets <G>.
