Bryan, was curious about the SCSI controller that comes with the
NEC/BSR CDR-80 drive. I believe I already have an EDC-200/201 16 bit host
bus adapter (SCSI) with a Fujitsu 1.2gig drive on the system, and was
curious if the NEC required it's own controller card or if I might stand a
chance of using the existing one with the new CD-ROM drive. If not, might
it be possible to use the new SCSI card with my existing setup either in
place of or in tandem with the current controller? I'm so confused.

Patty,
I don't have that much experience with SCSI, but my understanding is that
the NEC is a standard SCSI device. It should work with your existing card
(hopefully someone else will correct me if I'm wrong). There were a lot of
these NEC drives sold, so maybe you'll get some other comments.

I'm using the DAK NEC-80 with a Future Domain controller, no problem, it is
quite standard. It should work with anything except that you must get a
CDROM driver from the manufacturer of the controller and put it in your
config.sys file. The D: parameter that appears on the command line for
MSCDEX in your autoexec.bat will change, too, to match the label in the new
CDROM driver.

Thanks Bryan, I've received some very informative and informed replies
from some of the other conference members and know some others who have
purchased them, so should be okay with it.
Btw, yeah, figured there were a lot of them sold, ordered mine the same
day I received my catalogue and discovered they were on back order with a 3
week waiting period. :sigh:
