Keyboard specs

I am interested in the technical specs of an AMIGA keyboard. I need to know
the Pins and data stream I/O specifications. Is there a technical bullitin
or book I can get ? Are all AMIGA and/or COMMODORE keyboards similar?

Try the "Amiga Hardware Reference Manual." available at most decent
bookstores (I got mine @ my "local" Software Etc.).

The Amiga keyboard is discussed in the Amiga Hardware ROM Kernal Manual,
published by Addison-Wesley. The book can be found at good Amiga dealers,
and sometimes at B. Dalton or Walden Books.
The Amiga keyboard is a specialized subsystem in itself. The controller
chip is a custom chip, and not the common chip found in IBM type keyboards.

Get the Amiga Hardware Manual (not sure of the exact name — it's available
from any book or computer store that would carry the "RKM"s). It contains
everything you need to know about the keyboard.

Latest word is that the Libraries part of the RKM is scheduled to be
available June 15, in case you or anyone else were interested. I called
Addison-Wesley two days ago, and they took my order…

I *think* their book number for the Libraries book is 56774; that's not the
ISBN, and it might not even be correct, but for some reason that i don't
recall i'd written that number on the same note with their phone number on
it. It may help them to find the book (if that's the one you want). Make
sure you don't inadvertently order the old one; these should be the 3rd
editions.
BTW, the woman I talked to said that she'd taken *lots* of orders for these
books…a pleasant comment to hear. Maybe there's more potential
developers out there than i thought…!

Well, since 2.04's reputed to be easier to program for… I suspect that
people are looking for information. Me, I'm waiting for v1.1 of HiSoft's
HighSpeed Pascal to ship…

How does the Libraries part of the RKM differ from the Includes and
Autodocs part?

It [RKM Libraries] not only has example code, but documents what the
functions _do_ as opposed to how to call them. It also goes into much
greater depth as to what things are done where and why they're done, as
well as the all-important _how_.
Think of it as the tutorial (not really) with the Includes and 'Docs
giving you the nuts 'n' bolts index and instruction reference. You _read_
the RKM Libraries once, then spend the rest of the time looking up things
in the others. 8)

It sounds almost like [RKM Libraries] might be an update of the old RKM
volume 1 (the recent [RKM Includes and Autodocs] covers most of the range
of the old volume 1).
I guess I'll need it. Sigh! When I paid out $100 for my original set
(including the four other manuals) I hoped it would last the rest of my
life…

I'm not sure, but I *think* there's supposed to be more detailed
information than in the Includes and Autodocs. Whenever the book comes,
I'll let you know.
