#3D People… lots-o-dem!

I tried the Cylinder idea last week. The problem is the peoples heads are
more narrow that their bodies, so if you are at any angle other than 90
degrees, the heads start to disapear. I'm saving that one for our Friday
the 13th game…<g>

So try cones. You could have thousands of cheering coneheads. 🙂

Jack, I was rendering something yesterday and when I got closer than .5
inch (I was in architectural coords) with the camera it failed to render at
all. Is this a bug? I can upload a small model which bombs… What I am
doing is a 'pull back' with the camera and I want to start real close to
reveal details of the image. It is texture-mapped by the way.
You've got to reset your camera clipping, Doug, when you're that close. You
can set it from the System Options dialog using Z-Clip-Near (page 3-11 of
the Ref. Manual), or you can set it in the 3ds.set file. But, if it won't
ruin things, I recommend scaling all of your geometry up so the distance
isn't as close. Extreme camera clipping values sometimes cause weird
problems.

Thanks Jack. I'll try that…
Like Jack says, the camera clipping plane is responsible, however, it can't
be set to a value less than 1.0. I ran into the same scenario once. After
that, I learned to always make sure that the scale of the scene would
result in a range of coordinates large enough to avoid close camera/scene
relationships. You may have to scale the entire model by 10 or some value,
just to expand the coordinate range.

Wrong! I set it to .01 yesterday and solved all the problems…
Ooooh, another change in version 2.0……I'll be setting mine down right
now!! Sorry!
-Jeff
No change, you've always been able to set the camera clip below 1.0.
– Jack
I thought I had tried setting it below 1.0 at one time and it didn't make a
difference…….so I checked the I&P Guide just now for Release 1, and on
page 22, "the range is from 1.0 to infinity".
Was this maybe changed in 1.1 and I never noticed?

hmmm cones… not a bad idea. I'll have to see how few faces I can get away
with…(pun intended).
