HELLO FRIENDS IM NEW TO THIS GAME AND HAVE JOINED ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF A FRIEND. I AM RUNNING WINDOWS 3.1, SONY CD ROM DRIVE AND SOUND BLASTER PRO CARD. MY MAIN PROBLEM IS NOT BEING ABLE TO OBTAIN ANY REASONABLY PRICED CD ROM SOFTWARE IN THE UK. HENCE MY GO CD ROM INITIATION… CAN ANYONE ASSIST WITH A LIST OF STATE SIDE CD ROM MANUFACTURERS ???? OR POSSIBLY SEND ME ANY OLD/NEW MPC MAGS IN EXCHANGE FOR EITHER CASH OR SIMILAR FROM THIS SIDE OF THE ATLANTIC….. FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH. WHILST I AM UP N RUNNING CAN ANYONE ADVISE IF THERE IS A BOOK SEARCH FACILITY ON COMPUSERVE PLS. SORRY TO BE SO DEMANDING FIRST TIME OUT BUT I TRUST U UNDERSTAND.

Tim, Welcome. Recommend not writing in ALL CAPS. It's taken as SHOUTING. Try Rex Computers, 205/956-9260 and PsL (Public Software Library), 713/524-6394. PsL is outstanding, although their CD selection is still somewhat limited. I have not dealt with Rex, but their catalog has the best selection I've seen. Another thought is Nautilus, a subscription by disc. Lots of good stuff, very cheap. 614/766-3150. Good luck. robin

Tim, A little general advice first. Don't send messages in all capitals as that indicates shouting (or new users<grin>). It also makes the message harder to read. Also, you will find a lot of helpful and friendly people on CI$, so ask all the questions you want. The only dumb question is one that never gets asked<g>! With the topics you have asked about, I would also suggest you not limit yourself to this Forum. There is a MultiMedia Forum and two MM Vendor Forums on CIS, also, that could get your questions to a wider audience. There are also Literary Forums. As for specifics, I won't be as much help<g>. You should try Ernie w/Nimbus at 70632,3011 for the CD's. I'm not real sure what you want re the book search. You might try the Lit Forums on that one. Be careful where you go looking on CIS – If you see a $ next to the menu choice it means extra $$$ to use it. Sometimes, a lot extra. Hope that helps, John

Hi John Many thanks for the advice re SHOUTING I'll try to remember in future sessions not to offend. I am grateful for the info re CDROM's. I am sending a reply, but am puzzled by the *No Replies* message….. does this mean that you merely participate to help others but do not want/expect replies???? Trust you can bear such questions from a "wet behind the ears rookie." Many Thanks for the info n good advice anyway Tim

Tim, Glad to be of help. I've been around here a while, and still have to "towel off" frequently!<g> Ask away! If I don't have an answer, somebody will. I don't know where the *No Replies* message came from, either. It certainly isn't anything I did intentionally. Where exactly did you get it? The only thing I can think of is if it was an on-line type of message. I use an automated program to read and send messages to cut down on CI$ S's. Honestly, I'm not THAT altruistic! Maybe the Sysop will pop in with an answer. Anyway, as you pound the boards, remember the flip side(s) of "You learn from your mistakes" – If you don't make any mistakes, you don't learn anything; and those who know the most are the ones that made the most mistakes!<G> John

Books in print is available on CIS as a surcharged service I think it's GO BOOKS.
