#Supra modem

Has anyone encountered a problem with the speaker on the new Supra
fax/modem v32bis 14400? I have had the modem for about a month, and just
recently the speaker will fade in and out when it is dialing a number. It
always works fine with the first call, but after that all I can use to
judge the success of the call is the status message on the screen. Any
help would be appreciated before I give SSupra a call
Neil-
FWIW, I have the V32.bis and have not experienced this problem.

Neil,
I have a very rough sounding speaker on my Supra V32bis, loads of
crackling and hissing but the line is fine but up to now no fading.
I have only had my modem a few days but it seems very flakey compared the
other Supras that I have owned. One problem that is bugging like crazy is
that it can never make up its mind if its going to return a "BUSY" status
message. I have to sit there and watch it. I don't think its the modem
settings as it works sometimes and not others, even when making the same
call!.
Do you have FAX software for it?……I have gotten the AFAX demo to work
on it quite well but its not really what I want so I would like to get some
feedback about GP FAX before I send off for a registered copy.

Paul,
sorry, but I don't really intend on using it as a Fax so I didn't get
any fax software. Your problem sounds like what I was experiencing. I have
owned the modem for a little over a month and at first my status messages
weren't consistent. The speaker bombed on me only about a week ago.
Sometimes I can hear the number dialing, but then it will just shut off.
It is quite a pain because if I call a new board I don't know if I get the
disconnect message, and actual person, or just an endless ring if I don't
connect. I will call Supra tomorrow and let you know what they say.

Neil,
Yes I will be interested in what Supra have to say, I think that the
speakers are bit of a weak point in all there modems as a friend of mine
has the 2400ZI internal modem and his speaker has kicked the bucket also.
He is trying to persuade me to donate the speaker from 2400 external that I
have here ;-).

Well better the speaker than anything else I guess. So far the rest of the
modem is great. I left a message here to Supra and I am waiting on a
response.
Well there are 3 things I've found that are a problem with the Supra
FaxModem. Like you mentioned, the speaker. Next the modem sometimes has
problems recognizing a busy signal. And last, there is a bug in the
firmware that prevents 2 Supra FaxModems connecting up at 14.4. Has to do
with each modem not wanting to initiate 'Fallback' mode. Supra is aware of
this one and said they would have a rom fix in the future.

John,
I am glad that I am not the only one having problems with the
SupraFAX, the speaker problems I can live with but the failure to send a
"BUSY" message is REALLY annoying. The problem of the Supra>Supra
connection I was'nt aware of so I will have to look out for that.
I do hope Supra send out the upgrades automatically, maybe we will get a
free voice messaging upgrade free at the same time;-).

Hi,
I have the SupraFaxModem V.32 (same thing just limited to 9600) and it
works fine. The speaker is actually too loud so I've set it at L0 (the
default is L2). Have you called Supra about it?
