Well, I'm not exactly around the southern california area either. More like Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to be precise. I thought I was the only Canadian around here… The wavefront patches aren't really like booleans. (It has them too.) They are more like splined vertices. When you move one vertex, the neighboring ones react as if the object was a big spline thing. 3D studio has that in the shaper, when vertices and segments are curved, and you move one, the segment curves in resonse. It's kind of like that, but in 3d. Aaron

What do you mean the only Canadian here eh? Wavefront has two types of patches. At least the last time I was able to use it. Correct? Is there not quite a difference between the two? Which will relate more closely to what 3D Studio can do? -Kevin

Last time I used wavefront, there were 3 types of patches. I think it was version 2.3 or something like that, 2.something anyway. There was a B-Spline Patch, Cardinal Patch, and Bezier patch. I'm not exactly sure what the differences were, something in the tension of the splines. I don't think that 3DS can do ANY of these, at least not in the 3d editor. In the shaper and lofter, I think it does the spline one, although you can modify the curves much easier in the shaper anyway, so it doesn't really matter which kind they are. Aaron

Ahh.. You have jogged my memory. I remember Bezier patches as being particularly interesting. Is this something for the wishlist? I take it that you no longer use wavefront. How come? -Kevin

Ah, and I thought *I* was the only one….. When you mentioned "welding" of the patches, I though maybe like Booleans, but stretching of the patch, similar to the 2 D stuff in the SHAPER and LOFTER is what we need expanded into 3 dimensions. I see Gary is back…<G>. -Jeff

Exactly. The Editor now has no facilities for splines of any kind. That would be a nice feature for 3.0. Aaron
