Can anyone out there in AmigaLand suggest a laptop that might be compatable to my Amiga 2000? I have SuperBase4 Pro. and would like to use it in a laptop D. I cannot always be where my Amiga is, but do have the flexability to work on business stuff in another location. Help, suggestions etc. wuold be apreciated. Thanks, Jacquie

Jacquie, I had heard of the development of a Laptop (or notebook) Amiga compatible, however, apparently the developer is having some difficulty licensing the custom chip set from CBM. This is according to the June '92 issue of *AC*. Doesn't look like there's one forthcoming… Jim

RE: Laptop Amiga. I talked to the developer two weeks ago, the Laptop in still on track, just a slow track, they expect to be shipping within the next 60-90 days. – via Whap!

They should take a note from Atari's book (Portfolio) — I read recently that several other development projects are currently being funded by sales of the hand-held units. Regards, Whap!penned… Pat @Oxxi (310) 427-1227

Jacquie, I don't think we are going to see an Amiga Laptop for a while yet. One thing you could do in the interim, is to get a PC Laptop and SB4 for Windows. The files are all compatible except for the forms. With a little work, one could be using the same application on both platforms. At this point, it is about the only option going for a portable SB4 platform. Ciao, Neil

Neil, Thanks for the reply. Seems as though I've been hearing about an Amiga laptop for a few years now – or is it wishful thinking? What's the holdup? I can go into any computer store except for one, and fine at least three different brands. None of them support Amiga either. I'm begining to realize that I may have made a big mistake sinking all of my money into my Amiga. I really like it, but….. Jacquie

Jacquie, I don't know if this will help you or not but there is a PC Windows version of Superbase Pro 4 available that will run on any pc compatible laptop providing it can run Windows. The windows version of SBPro is file and program compatible with the amiga version but is NOT form compatible 🙁 which means you would have to re do all your forms for both amiga and windows, but once you pass tha hurdle you should be able to pass files and records easily.

Now that sounds great! The forms I designed are pretty basic and can be redone without a hassel. I'll check into whats available with that option. And thank you – thank you!!!

Jacquie, there's also an active SBase Windows forum here on CompuServe, so you don't have to bop around to get support for both platforms. Regards, Whap!penned… Pat @Oxxi (310) 427-1227

You might try buying a PC compatable laptop and getting superbase for it. I don't know what kind of a problem running windows on a laptop would cause, or even if it can be done. But I am sure your local dealer will be more than happy to sell you all you need. Bill Roberts in Ellettsville In. via Whap!
