To Andrew Apold (@MSS): I just purchased (3 weeks ago) Excellence! V2.00b at World Of Commodore NY. I mailed my registration card in to you as well. Do I get a discount on the upgrade to V3.0 of Excellence!. I also bought Prowrite V3.2 at WOC. I found that big documents have faster paragraph and line inserts on my Amiga 2000 (MC68000) than on Excellence!. I found this annoying and am now using Prowrite to edit the document. Prowrite doesn't have all the advanced features of E! but writing the text is more important to me than fooling around with advanced features like indexing and footnotes which I will use shortly in Excellence!. The file I'm editing is over 500K. Also, since E! uses ARexx, will it be possible to use E! V3.0 indexing via ARexx. i.e. a list of words in an ARexx script or in a file read from an ARexx script could be fed into E! V3.0's indexing capabilities. Please answer. I would consider the capabilty to handle control of indexing from ARexx worth the price of the upgrade. Thankyou, Patrick Beaudine.

Yes, you will get the discount, just send in your reg. card. Yes, it will be possible to index via arexx, but unless you want every word indexed (which you might), it would be best to set your indexes manually. If you feel like writing ARexx, you could come up with a list of words NOT to index, like "A", "THE", "OF", etc. and have your ARexx program pull words, check them with your list, and mark them for indexing if they are not in that list. You can access any menu options from ARexx. If you want your index in a separate document, you can do that, too, as you can open a new document and then paste the index into that.

Andrew… When I received notice (from MSS, as a registered Scribble! user) of the release of excellence!, I immediately sent in my order and about a year later received the promised product. I have kept excellence! up to date by obtaining the upgrades from MSS as they became available (as I recall, some were even NO CHARGE – thanks!). About a month ago, I received a mailing from MSS announcing excellence! 3.0 with the promise of immediate shipment upon receipt of orders. I faxed my order to MSS (per the instructions) the same day. Still, I have yet to receive 3.0. PLEASE tell me I'm not going to have wait a year for it to ship! Michael ….from the north coast (go Cavs!)

Andrew, Will Excellence! 3.0 handle PostScript cartridges better? In my old 2.0 version I must send the first Postscript file to the printre twice before it prints. As long as I don't terminate excellence! after that all prints go first time. I have a laserJet IIp with a PacPage PE cart. All other Postscript ouputers (ProPage, Pagestream) have not problem. Also, did MSS provide a way to put escape sequences in the file? I need that to be able to print envelopes (paper tray select and orientation). I know they were opposed to it based on WYSIWYG, but some printers need a little more help than ADos/excellence can supply, like tray selection commands. Escape sequences are the logical way to do it without having to do something special for every command.

I was not aware of problems with that postscript cartridge, I will look into it. No, you cannot insert escape codes.

Andrew, Sure wuold like those esxcape codes so I could do my paper tray selection commands in the files that require switching (like envelopes etc). wmc
