I like your opinion on the Opalvision system? I like how it is suppose
to intergrate Amiga graphics, live video, and 24 bit together. The
paint program seems very verstile. I think I could use the Director
with it by using Arexx commands, but I would lke to know if you are
planning to control it directly. Or are there some other boards on
the market that interest you more? If so, why? For any other people
who have opinions on Opalvision, I would love to hear them especially
as compared to GVP's IV-24 system.
Also I purchased The Director's Tool Kit for version 1. Has there been
an upgrade for D2? If so, how can I get a hold of the upgrade?

We are exploring ways to work with all of the 24 bit boards, under AmigaDOS
3.0. The Opalvision does seem like a nice system, and we certainly include
it in the list of boards we're interested in.
To get the upgrade for the Toolkit (we have an Interim Toolkit which
provides a new MIDI module, serial module, Haitex 3D glasses module, Laser
Disc (Pioneer LDV4200 type, but can be configured for others by a
knowledgable person) and a few other goodies which we are providing as the
current update to the ToolKit 1. You can get it for $10.00 directly from
Right Answers.
I don't have a good time frame for AmigaDOS 3.0 mods right now, as there
are a significant number of things being affected by both the new DOS, the
new hardware, and the changing marketplace.

Could you give us more details on now to get the Toolkit?
The Interim toolkit can be ordered for $10.00 from Right Answers regardless
of whether or not you have previously purchased the original Toolkit.
However, the interim toolkit will not be accepted towards upgrading to
Toolkit II (which may now end up Toolkit III), only the original Toolkit
will.
As far as configuring for other LaserDisc players, the Laser Video module
utilizes a text config file which specifies the commands to be sent to the
player when the module commands are used. Each command is associated with
a string:
playr="60spmr\r" gotoframe="fr%dse\r" qtime="?t\r"
and the like. In the above examples, (for the 4200) the PLAYR (play
reverse) command issues a 60sp (set multi speed to 60 fr/sec) and then does
a "mr" (multi-speed reverse). Gotoframe uses "fr" to select frame mode,
and %d to insert the numeric parameter provided the command by the Director
script (a frame number) and then "se" does a search."
The commands are returned a result code which is interpreted from the
players response and encoded into a numeric return parameter by the module.
For text based protocols like the above example, it's relatively easy to
configure, but for binary based protocols (like the Pioneer 6000 and Sony)
its somewhat more complex. Strings can specify holding registers, do
binary arithmetic, and pretty much whatever is needed to massage the data
in and out so that the commands can be produced and the results
interpreted. However, we don't guarantee that the current version has all
the faculties necessary to do the job, or that they are fully debugged in
some of the areas where specific binary protocols have not been tried.
That is why we refer to the current Toolkit as the Interim toolkit, it is
really betaware, we are making it available because 1) people need it, and
2) it needs testing.

I have the orignal Director and Toolkit. What does it cost to upgrade to
the latest and greatest and how do I upgrade?

Within the U.S., the upgrade to The Director version 2 is $65.00, shipping
included, and the Interim Toolkit is $10.00. add $10.00 shipping to Canada,
and $15.00 outside U.S. and Canada. Details on what The Director version 2
contains is in the general information file in the Library section of the
Amiga Vendor Forum (subsection 14: Right Answers). In fact, I think
upgrade information is there as well.

How much is the toolkit if it is not an upgrade? And how *hard* is it to
make it get a Pioneer 6000A going? We have the manual but not too much
knowledge. It would be fun to get it conrolled from Director.
