Dave Haynie's DiskSalv is a good repair tool, too!

Dale, I have had great luck with DiskSalv, and I agree. Once, when I formatted the first ten cylinders of a packed hard drive, DiskSalv was the only thing that let me get the rest of the data off the drive. Of course, I needed to borrow a SyQuest to dump to… FixDisk is great when you don't have storage to dump to; it fixes most disk maladies just fine. Jonathan

Jonathan, I did a similar thing, but only the first cylinder, before I realised that I had typed DH0: instead of DF0:. I used Quarterback tools, which saw all the files on the disk but I couldn't access them in any way. Finally, I crossed my fingers and did a FORMAT with the QUICK option. This enabled QB Tools to see all the files as deleted ones, and I was able to recover everything. Pete Jones, Brussels, Belgium, flying on AutoPilot

Does DiskSalv still work under 2.1? —Betty

Yes, I got some stuff saved yesterday. Pete

Thanks, Pete. I had not tried it under the new software, and had heard a rumor that it was broken. I'm glad to know it is not. —Betty

I can't think of any reason that it should have stopped working between 2.0 and 2.1, as nothing changed in the ROM and therefore in the filesystem. There certainly is a version of DiskSalve that does work with 2.1.

I have heard that Dave is working on a new version and has not yet finished it, so I wondered. Thanks for the help. Just hadn't needed to try it since I updated my software. —Betty
