I am thinking of buying the Opalvision board. First question is do you have
any opinion about it?
Second is how can I obtain the SAVER you have for it?
Do you have a list of other new files I might be missing since getting the
2.1.3 upgrade?

The ADPro saver comes with the OpalVision software.

ADpro 2.1.5 is the currently shipping product (and has been stable for a
good long time). The upgrade from 2.1.3 to 2.1.5 is free but contains only
some small bug fixes. I would recommend not going to the effort of
requesting 2.1.5 since 2.2.X will be released *very* shortly. This upgrade
will cost less than $50.
There is an OpalVision saver, and and OpalVision operator. Both of these
are provided by Centaur and will be provided on the 2.2.X upgrade.

Well if you're interested in a user's opinion, I'd say go for it. I've had
one for 2 months and am delighted with it.

The saver is available from any of the support boards for opal vision

I too have been using Opal since the WOC Toronto, and would have to mark it
as an excellent product. The real deciding factor for me to buy Opal was
the animation capability. Centaur seems committed to the development and
support of Opal, and they maintain a bbs in CA for users to inquire on, get
patches, beta-ware, and deposit usefull tidbits and samples of what they
are doing! I wish they were here in AmigaVendor but alas I have just
ordered the Supra 14.4
I'd be glad to answer any questions I can about it, but I am not a
programmer nor hardware expert, just an avid user.
Bil, I would love to here your impressions of Opalvision. I am especially
interested in the animation capabilities. How smooth are the animations?
Is it true that the highest res anim is 768 X 286? Are they planning on
incorporating higher res anims in the future? Thanks for your reply.

John, So far I just love Opal. Got the latest update to OpalPaint off
their bbs last night but havn't tried it yet. Still OpalPaint is almost
like a paintbox, really well done. Yes, 8bit anims are 768×236 but 24bit
anims are 386×236. I have not heard any discussion yet on improving the
resolutions but also got a new anim-maker from them last night which claims
to have better delta compression which may ultimately result in higher
resolutions at higher bit planes. Max play back of 24bit frames is 15/sec
and looks tremendous even though its low res! I was sold on Opal because of
the Paint and Anims cinched it. I'd be glad to answer what I can, and you

Thanks Bil for your views on OpalVision. I am real glad to hear that the
anims look great despite the low res. This makes my decision on what to
buy next all the more difficult (but choices are wonderful!). It also
seems OpalVision is going to be (and already is) supported in a big way by
other software. I am a little concerned that anims must be played with
their anim player, but maybe others will take a try at incorporating Opal
Anims in a presentation software package. Does the Paint or anim program
support color cycling? This is becoming a scarce feature on new programs
and is superb for technical animations (fluid flow). The best so far has
been Ham-E Paint, but nothing since. Thanks.

Yes I know how hard the decision is to make on which graphics display to go
with. It was real hard for me not to just add an A1200, but I am really
happy (read ecstatic) with Opal. Right now, the only way I know to play
Opal anims is with their player. Scala has announce they soon will
incorporate Opal so this is likely to change; hopefully not only with them!
There are now a couple of little third party viewers that load gif in
addition to jpg and iff24 and various interfaces for different programming
languages popping up. I do not have cycling currently but it is promised
for the next OpalPaint rev and will also have a real time posterize effect
and who knows what else. If you want some horse's mouth answers, call the
