Does anyone use the One Stop Sound Shop from Blue Ribbon? I would like to know how you like it and which set of Proteus sounds it has inside. I am particularly interested in the sound editing software and sounds from the Proteus World. dBrown

dBrown, Hi. I own the One-Stop Music Shop. I like it very much. There is a file in the Libs here that lists all the sounds contained in the E-Mu sound engine on the board. Check the file and then let me know if you have any further questions. Dom Fontana –> Sent from NY via AP <–

That is very amazing because I heard it and found it was horrible and I had it compare to a SC155 from Roland and this OSMS was null compare to the 55 . I have called Blue Ribbon service to explain that maybe there was something wrong with the unit I had but they said there were suprise and thd that this was the sound so my conclusion is that it is not very good sound for serious midi player . Marcel, Thanks for your comments, but I disagree with you. I'm sure Blue Ribbon couldn't tell over the phone if your board was defective or if it was set up improperly. It sounds like your board is not performing properly. The One-Stop Music Shop from Blue Ribbon has excellent 16-bit audio quality. It uses the E-MU sound engine chip which is manufactured my E-MU and used in many other sound boards, with universal acclaim. The sound quality is comparable to the Proteus line of sample players. For those reading this thread, the One-Stop Music Shop sounds fabulous. Not only isn't it the case that it doesn't have good sound, it is actually the quintessential sound board for the serious and professional MIDI player due to its outstanding 16-bit sound quality. Even if you try to hide it the sound of the board I had was like the amiga one and when I called Blue Ribbon nobody offered me to try another one . This I don't understand well . They have lost a couple of sell here because of that . Imagine that nobody here (Quebec city) will take the chance that you are rig this board souns good for that price . So without hearing a good board on their machine , nobody will buy this one. Maiby they are to busy .

Marcel, My experience has been that Blue Ribbon has great customer service. There may have been a misunderstanding between you and Blue Ribbon, since they are never too busy to help a customer. Did you buy the OSMS directly from Blue Ribbon or from a dealer? If you bought it from a dealer and you think it's defective, then you should ask the dealer to replace it for you. However, if you're having problems with your dealer, I'm sure Blue Ribbon will take care of you. Have you ever heard the E-MU Proteus/1 sample playback module? It's a rack mount 16-bit MIDI sound module. I have the Proteus/1 XR and the Proteus/2 and Proteus/3 are also available. These are standard modules used in professional recording studios around the world. It's generally acknowledged that they sound great. Now E-MU themselves manufactures the E-MU Proteus sound engine board that they make available to other companies. If you look at Blue Ribbon's One-Stop Music Shop board you will see that there is a smaller board (that says E-MU on it) that is connected to the OSMS board. The point is that the OSMS board is just a vehicle to allow the E-MU Proteus sound engine to be used with the Amiga. The sound engine itself produces the sound. This same sound engine is available in many other products and it's generally acknowledged that it sounds great. My OSMS has virtually the same sound quality as my Proteus/1 XR rack mount unit. There is the difference between night and day between that sound and the Amiga's built-in 8-bit sound. I don't think you are actually hearing the OSMS's 16-bit sound and not liking it. You are probably still hearing the Amiga's internal 8-bit sounds and that's why you are not satisfied. That is, the OSMS is not performing properly with your computer. The issue is to found out why it's not working and then to correct the problem. I don't believe you are not happy with the sound of the OSMS; for some reason you are not listening to the sound of the OSMS. When you get it to work properly, I believe you will be very satisfied with the sound quality. I'll ask Melissa to respond to you here or you can call her on Monday yourself. She'll make sure that you get what you paid for, even if it means sending you a new OSMS board. Believe me, the board sounds great. After the problem is resolved, please let me know what you think of the OSMS board. Good luck. Dom Fontana –> Sent from NY via AP <–

Don't missunderstand me and don't think I am not knowing wath I am doing . I heard the sound of this board and it was bad . How can you believe that I could misjudge this fact ? The sound comming out og that plug on that board was incorrect . That is all . I have always believed that this board was to be a good piece of hardware for midi purpose and was very surprised of the inverse so I am trying to know the truth . Marcel Jacques

The sound was BAD? I find it hard to believe that the sound of the One-Stop was bad, unless it was defective or your audio output device(s) were not hi fidelity. As was previously stated by Mr. Fontana, the One-Stop utilizes an E-MU Proteus soundengine, which has undisputably become one of the industry standards for synthesis. To those of you who do not know, the One-Stop has 4 MB of Soundfile ROM. This makes for some very good acoustic instrument samples, which is very evident in such patches as the Acoustic Grand Piano and any of the string patches. The frequency response of the One-Stop is a full 20Hz-20kHz, which spans the entire frequency response of the human ear. Total Harmonic Distortion is less than 0.05%. If you like the quality of any of the Proteus keyboards or sound modules, then you will like the One-Stop. Marcel, I encourage you to give technical support a call and see if what you heard is the way the One-Stop should sound. We will be happy to help you out!

That board was bad , that is what I said I beleive ! But my message should not be here I apologize for Blue Ribbon that is a m mistake from my part . I just mention that to get the attention of someone from Blue Ribbon to the fact that a bad board was in circulation over here . I had no way to compare the board with a good one so was no shure I am trying to get back this board to send it to blue Ribbon but the store that had it is not any more in business so It will be hard . From my experience the was bits missing in the D/A process I guess because it sounded like 8 or 12 bits samples . Reread my messages and you will see that I never tried to say that all the boards were b board were bad . I was refering to a particular board . Marcel Jacques

We have contacted the person the have the board on hand and he does not want me to se to give me that board to send it to you because he is affraid I will have problems with custom which I know I won't . So there is no hope for this solution . And that is not me that needed a board. d . My friend will not spend that amount of money before hearing it . I believe you when you say that sound great but again I will not be able to convince him enough to take the chance . I will let you know of any devellopement for that purpose . By the way have you been thinking in designing a soft for sampling edition .? I own a sampler and would need that sort of soft in conjonction with Bars&Pipes Thanks Marcel Jacques

Marcel, Please understand that I know you are trying to find out the truth about the board and I really believe that you DO know what you are doing. What I was saying was you may have been given a defective board, because everyone else who has heard it has raved about the sound. And even if for some reason you didn't think the board sounded as good as you had hoped, it definitely sounds tremendously better than the Amiga's 8-bit sound. Since you said that the board sounded the same as the 8-bit sound, I figured that something is wrong with the board. What audio system do you have the board hooked up to? Is it hooked up to a good stereo system or to a video monitor or cheap pair of computer speakers? We'd all like to help you discover why your board is not working properly. We have listen to it with a good sound system side to side with a EPS16 and with headphones to verify the noise qualite of the board . We are Blue Ribbon custommers that wanted to refere that board to friends using 3000 and Bars&Pipes and I have always been proposing Blue Ribbon products as the best one that is why I tried to get an attention from them because I had talked to a person in service that could not deal with me marketting way because I don't own this particular Board . Anyway I talked to Todor about it and I am trying to put my hand on this board to send them back and reestablish confidence with the friends in process to buy such a product. Maybe because of my poor English I have been badly explaining the situation and I apologize for the inconveniences . Marcel Jacques Quebec City .

The problem is that we had to verify the quality of the sound of your card for a store that did not know about music sound and midi . So that store got a board from his dealer in Toronto I guess . Our comparaison was with a SC 55 from Roland that I own . The sound of your card look like the AMIGA internal sound with some kind of static static a the end of the samples . There was friend that we had to introduce in the midi world waiting for the recommandation . And we said no way this was horrible overhall quality . This store now is not existing anymore in Quebec City and I will never pay this amount to verify if the previous one was broken or not . So I called Blue Ribbon and explain that to a service person that said we never had any problem that was all . Please understand that I am not complaining but just informing you that here someone told people to not buy this board . There will be no way to reverse this except earing good sounds from a good bo board to reestablish the confidence . I personnaly own SuperJam! Triple play plus a nd syncpro and am very please with i with it but I would never buy OSMS with what I heard . I am just trying to inform you about what happen . I am sorry . Marcel Jacques

Hello, Marcel! Who did you speak to here at Blue Ribbon about the One-Stop Music Shop. I;ve heard nothing but praise for this soundcard, and as such, was surprised to hear your opinion. /m
