2000 vs. 3000 w/Cozzy

I am a current Atari user looking to get into DTV. I have decided that I HAVE
to have the Video Toaster Package but I am unsure if I want to get an A2000 or
A3000 and use the Toaster Cozzy. I would be interested in hearing any input!
Are there any toaster users using an A3000, that could help? As well are there
any limitations to software selection if I buy an A3000?

Call NewTek at 1-800-368-5441 and get info on their latest Toaster.
It was released just this monday, so most people haven't heard of it
yet. It's much better than the current Toaster, and offers alot more
choices when it comes to choosing your base system.
Curious Eric – Have you heard how compatible the A4000 is to the
A2000 software out there is? Games and the like included.

Suffice to say, if the software was written under AmigaDOS 2.x, it
should have no problem running on the A4000. If the software is
pre-2.x, it's a toss of the coin.

New Toaster for the A4000 was just announced. Should make yer
Decision even more "FUN" hehehehehe I'm also an EX Atarian, gave up
after the 1040STe Fiasco and got an Amiga for 3D animation
Yes, I agree nothing like the Amiga for DTV and animation! SO if this new A4000
Toaster Version works on the 4000, does that mean it will work with the 3 3000
as well?

The new T4000 will fit and work in the A2000/3000 at the cost of not
having AGA displays.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference between AGA and VGA? or for
that matter EGA?

I guess that you don't deal with Amigas a whole lot, but here is the
explanation behind the alphabet soup:
VGA: Video Graphics Array. A graphic adapter (and standard) invented
by IBM, and extended by others. VGA means (graphically speaking) 256
colors at a res of 320×200, or 16 colors at 640×480. Like other PC
graphic adapters, a good way to display spreadsheets in many colors.
EGA: Precursor of VGA. Top res: 640×350 with 16 colors. Unlike VGA,
which allows you to choose your colors from a much larger palette,
EGA's 16 colors range from garish to gross (I really like EGA brown
:). Another way to display colorful (although not as colorful)
spreadsheets on your PC clone.
AGA: A chipset type for the Amiga. Capable of high-res, very colorful
graphics that can be animated. Great for video, 3-D, "multimedia", games,
you know, the fun stuff. Capable of 768×482, 18-bit color animation at
30FPS or faster. Would be wasted on spreadsheets….:)

I am lost though, I don't know if I want to get a loaded used A2000 or A4000 to
run the Video Toaster. The 2000 seems like alot of bang for the buck, and the
4000 more expandibilty and speed for the future!
Saying nothing of a rumored A5000 that will obsolete the A4000!!

AGA is a New Amiga Chipset, VGA is from the IBM/Clone Realm.
AGA can do 256,000 colors onscreen at some Wild Resolutions
VGA is 256 colors or so at 640*480 rez if I'm not mistaken
EGA is a Dinosaur so lets not talk about it.
Thanks for the reply, my problem in deciding is that I can spend about $4500 to
$5000 total. I think that I have eliminated the 3000, so if I buy a 4 A4000
then I wouldn't be able to buy an editing deck! What do you think, buy the 4000
and save for a few months, or go for the whole enchilada and get a used 2000
toaster set-up and other video euipment, I already have a High8 camera! Dave
Depends on yer Monetary Situation and wether you will use it as a
Hobbyist or in a Business Situation. If for a Business, I'd say if
getting the A4000 Toaster will NOT allow you to get all the equipment
you need by all means get a Used 2000 based Toaster System do a few
Paying Jobs and Add a A4000 Toaster System when you can afford to.
It's better to make $$$ NOW with an Older System than have the Latest
Version but be unable to make $$$. The A4000 And Toaster will Suck up
most of yer $5000 Budget But then again so will a Good Quality
Editing VTR.
Supposedly the new Toaster will work in a A3000 but you won't get any of
the Benefits of the new hardware. This is all Second hand info for me tho
so……..
Ah! The days of Atari! I was always of the mind that my beauty, the
800 — no XL,XE,ST just the ol' 800 was top o' the line and frankly
was better since it had 4 joystick ports and 2 cartridge slots!!
Loved that honey of a system! Monster drives included hehehe.
