Some questions:
1. Re the VGA/multi-I/O card that has been discussed on this forum:
What are the specs? How fast is it? What is the screen refresh like in
Windows? If this card is slow, are there any FAST, POWERFUL cards of this
type?
2. Is there any way to increase the number of slots available?
3. Is it possible to run a modem off a multi-I/O card? (I now have one
as an IDE driver.) Telecommunications is one topic I have never seen
raised in this forum. What port would one use? I'd love to turn AP in in
favor of CIM for Windows, and am dying to junk SupraFAX for WinFAX Pro.
4. I'm still having trouble getting back up to speed after installing
DOS 6.0. I get an initial CMOS error. (Are those the right initials?)
Then, my system wants me to go through the setup program again. After a
reboot, it is usually ok. I have prefs set to D000 and Janus shadowed. I
reinstalled Janus. I tried ENFORCER QUIET, but had negative results. There
seems to be some sort of timing problem. I am using both the disk
compression and the memory manager.

Could you E-mail me the specs of the super I/O card? I do better working
w/black and white. I should make it clear here that I'm interested in a
good, fast VGA card – as good as or better than the one I have now (the
ATI wonder X/L). I am perfectly willing to pay for it.
My system, at present, consists of the 2386, 8 meg of RAM, 240 meg IDE hd
running off a multi-I/O driver, and a Logitech grey scale scanner. I want
to add a SCSI sound card and a CD ROM, and right now have no room.
I'm a writer and publisher running Windows 3.1 with WP 5.2, Word, Ami Pro,
Corel Draw, Illustrator, Graphic Works, Hijaak, MS Publisher, Paradox,
Quatro Pro, Dac Easy Accounting and Quicken.
Eventually, I'd like to upgrade to a 486, and am interested in your
upgrade package. Would this upgrade allow me to add more RAM?
I like the Amiga and want to keep it. I prefer working with Amiga DTP
programs because THEY ARE BETTER. However, my PC side leaves just a tad to
be desired. I really don't want to buy another machine – although that may
happen. Right now I have a very efficient one-person/one-station setup,
and a new machine would require me to totally revamp my office.

convert for you, just E-mail them to me.

How about a 486 upgrade and the super I/O card….it will be better
then going out and buying a $400 video only board. I would consider
the video card on the SM-I/O as pretty fast for an ISA card. With a
486 BB you CAN NOT see a window refresh in windows.
The specs are:

2 serial
1 parallel
1 game
UVGA w/ 1mb
$200
or $150 with the 386/486/upgrade
The 486 dosen't add ram expansion…8mb is still the limit and you must
have 60ns ram.
486 upgrade is $750
I might need 2 of those darn truetypes converted….I have your name and
will know in about a week…thanks for the offer.

The 486 is currently is $930 with 3mb
The upgrade from 386 to 486 is $750/$650
How much RAM can I add to the 486?

Actually, I've been looking at a nifty package now offered by Gateway:
$3000 for a 486/66 w/8 meg and a CD ROM. By Xmas, it should be down to
$2500. I might just wait and go for that. My system works pretty well as
it is. I can't see going for an upgrade if I can't increase the memory.
What I'd like to do is make room for a CD ROM on my PC side and speed up
my graphics and increase my memory. But my graphics aren't terrible now –
I just want perfection.
