No, not SPITBAL — SPITBOL. Yes, it's a joke, but it's also a language. Linguists frequently have a weird sense of humor. Like the best tri-lingual pun I've ever encountered: A young, attractive, female assistant professor, named Iovana (Vanna for short), joined the Linguistics Department. The next day a note in Chinese characters appeared on the two adjacent office doors — the Hindu word "Nirvana."

I've heard a variant of that based on the "Wheel of Fortune"… with someone being "near Vanna (White.)" There aren't that many N-lingual puns, are there? "One man's fish is another man's poisson." "Aqua fria, pour some more." Do you know others?
