Will POV 2.0 render any faster then POV1.0? Also POV1.0 ibmicb wont display renderings any higher than 640×480 .I have the source is there a way to change it to at least 800×600? Thanks, Sam There is 1 Reply. Read action !

Sam, POV 2.0 will have automatic bounding slabs, so will *almost always* render faster than 1.0… often much faster. You probably can't display > 640×480 because either your video card doesn't support it or you've got the switches set wrong. With my STB Ergo (TSENG4, Hicolor) I can't go over 640×480 in hicolor mode, but I can if I preview in palette-based mode (ugh!). There is 1 Reply. Read action !

Dan, I have a speedstar24x and I have three different versions of POV-Ray the ones I got through the image lab book and from TSL( shareware company) run fine in svga but the one I u/l frome here ( ibmicb ) wont and it is the only one that will run in windows (also it runs a little faster I think) . Thanks, Sam <btw> I'm still working on POV-Ray News but I dont know when it will be finished (it's kinda turning into a tutorial for beginers/intermediate covering problems you might encounter) . You need to run POVMOD. It'll tell you what to do. (I just ran out of mem on a 20K triangle file. I had it running under program control and it then attempted an 80K triangle file <G>) Read action !

Sam, Run "POVMOD POVRAY.EXE" , select <Modify Region Size>, and (generally) just <Accept> the value that it suggests. If you're running DOS, it's not a bad idea to run a chkdsk /f first, along with cleaning up any other garbage you may have sitting around (in other words, maximize your available disk space in any way you can before running POVMOD). Thanks dan, the real problem I had was just the name of the file (povmod) which I couldnt find, but the real problem was I didnt have enough disk space ont my C: drive and I was trying to render an extremely large file (the bigest and in my opinion the best I've done so far ) created (about 80%) by PV3d and its looking realy good. I'll be adding a basic tutorial in the POV-Ray News for PV3D because the documentation is realy dificult to understand but some of the functions are invaluable and I would hate for someone to miss out on these functions because they couldnt understand how to use them or didn't know they existed. I'm starting to babble again so I'm outta here. Thanks, Sa There is 1 Reply. Read action !

Sam, I ran into Lecointe on TGA yesterday. Boy, that guy is unstoppable! He's now adding a texture editor of some sort, as well as a few other features. I suggested (as delicately as I could) that he may be well advised to hold off on the new features and clean up what he's already done. I think part of the problem is that he just isn't getting the feedback that he needs. Read action !
