#Which accelerator?

I've been using ProPage for a while on my stock 2000 and it's just too slow. Now it looks like it would be a good idea to purchase an accelerator, if it's not too expensive. Have you seen the ad for the SupraTurbo28? It's not out yet, but it looks like it might be a good deal for about $170. One hardware merchant today tried to sell me a Microbiotics 25mhz 030 for $150, saying that it would be FOUR times faster than the ST28. Does this make sense? I'd be interested in hearing from other non-wealthy Amiga users who grok my situation.

…Jeez on my 040 propage is just to slow :> The SupraTurbo is fast 68000 with some cache memory….it still can't compair to a 68030. I think the MB 030 you looked at is disontinued, thats why you got such a good price, but I would still recommend it over the supra28. 3 to 4x as fast sounds about right… Dave Elite MicroComputers – Flying high on AutoPilot

Does that $150 for the Microbotics '30 board include memory? Having 32-bit memory makes a big difference in speed. =Edjs- Edward_Swatschek@mindlink.bc.ca

I've ordered the supra28 myself, will publish my own experiences with it when it arrives. currently using AdRam 540/w4megs, 1 chip, an ATOnce, and the A570, any incompatibilities will be noted. The main speed increase you'd get in using an '030 is the larger register set and "wider" memory access path, but that is negated if you don't buy the 32-bit RAM for it. In that case there won't be any noticeable speed increases over a "hot" 68000. Peter

Definitely let us know how your setup runs! I have a 500 sitting here beside my 1200, that has an Atonce+ card in it and I'd like to know if they can coexist. (I forsee problems, but I hope I'm wrong!) Bob Comer — Cruising the nets on AutoPilot

So far (as a Beta Tester for the ST28) the only incompatability I've had is between the ST28 and the GVP FaastRom 3.14 I had. I got the Rom upgrade kit from GVP that had the 4.34 Rom and I've not had a single difficulty since. 28.4 MHz ain't supersonic but it sure is flying! Rodger

I'm using the ST28 on my A500 with Baseboard w/4 megs memory and the B-Pal option, a GVP SII HD+ with 4 Megs memory, WB2.1 and the 2.04 ROM. I've got a total of 8.5 megs memory. The only difficulty I had when I first got it was caused by the early FaastRom I had in the GVP. GVP caches data in any on-board memory. When the ST28 was in Turbo mode and I tried to access the HD I got CRC errors on sector xxxxx. They weren't there. When I upgraded my FaastRom to the 4.34 version and used the SuprTurbocache program that comes with the ST28 all problems went away!
