DESKTOP VIDEO WORLD ISSUE 3 The latest issue of DTV World is now on
the newsstands – let us know what you think of it. Lou
I don't know how long you can keep it up, Lou, but nice work. I have
gone through phases of buying electronics related magazines starting
with Electronic Musician, then Amiga World, then Videomaker,
Multimedia World and now Desktop Video (got #3 in the mail on
Tuesday). I am sure that as an insider you have seen subscriber
interest rise and fall as they see repition of articles over the
years.
For me there is always this point of diminishing returns. I have hit
that with Electronic Musician. Videomaker hooks me for a while and
then I burn out and wonder why I subscribed. New Media is nice
because I don't pay, but the editorial content is also pretty light
in comparison to what you are trying to do with DTV.
More directly, can I make one GIANT suggestion? Every so often, AW
does a "genlock shootout." I have always liked those. But you guys
could do the clone market a big favor by doing a VGA to NTSC
shootout. Put the Willow Desktop Video, the Mediator, the Magni, the
Video VGA, etc on the scope with some test images and show us which
ones are worth the money. I read Videograper, AV Video, and other
mags and I have never seen a PC article about the quality of these
devices.
On a related note, I really appreciated the article/mini-review of
the four Amiga video cards (Opal, IV24, etc) in this latest issue. It
was a tad thin but it at least let me see the four products somewhat
compared. That article could be greatly expanded and would really
benefit Amiga video people.
Well, we intend to not only keep it up but get better yet. I
appreciate the comments and suggestions. I lke the VGA to NTSC
shootout idea… I had planned on something along a buyers guide, but
I will add this to the list.
Please keep the suggestions coming. We probably won't be able to use
them all, but you never can tell.
If it helps, you can call on our toll free number. 800-441-4403. I
usually answer when I'm at my desk, but when I'm not the voice mail
is always listening…
As for repeating articles – that won't happen for quite a while. We
will occasionally re-visit a topic, or approach it from a different
angle. And sometimes the market has changed enough that a new round
up or buyers guide is in order…
However, since we are a multiplatform, applications magazine in a
rather dynamic market – there s a lot to write about.
