We need a lot more information about what version of DOS you're using and what, exactly, you're doing in the program when DOS reports that you have too many files open. Are you loading or saving files or are you rendering? Are you using an ADI display or rendering driver? – G

PMJI, but we have a client calling with exactly the same problem, but we cannot reproduce it in any way. Please keep us all informed if a solution is reached. Thanks, GregP

Greg, With Dave's limited description the symptom sounds like my old problem that was caused by using the improper rendering driver. This problem of "too many files open….. etc" is just one of several "bugs" that will show up if the rendering driver is not the correct one for RDPADI. Remember, your suggestion helped resolve my problem a few months back. Render display should be RDPADI. Set RDPADI = rdptplus.exp

Don had a great point there. If you're using the wrong driver, that could easily happen, in addition to a bunch of other confused things. – G

I'll call them tomorrow and see exactly what their configuration is set for. GP
