Can anyone shed some light on what PMS colors are all about? I asked my wife, but she slugged me. <g> Seriously, someone gave me a PMS color for a Harley-Davidson logo I'm working on for the motor company, and the color was PMS 165. Can anyone tell me what that would relate to in RGB? Thanks.

PMS? It almost sounds like a joke. I know CIE(XYZ/LUV), CMY(K), HSV, HLS, HVC, TekHVC, YIQ, CNS, LAB, and, of course, RGB. Never heard of PMS though… Peruvian Metric System?

I'd recommend asking in the Desktop Publishing Forum (GO DTP) — it may be a Pantone designation, but there are a number of color systems, and they'd probably be able to help you.

PMS is a designation for a Pantone color system. There is a direct conversion between Pantone colors and RGB values, but I don't have it. On Compuserve, check in Forums relating to DTP or Illustration, but your best bet would be to visit a good art supply store. They usually have the entire line of pantone markers and colors, and probably can help you (by selling you some sort of conversion chart <g>).

Hey Brian– How did my reply to another forum member end up at the end of your reply to Roger D's message #43245? Did a CIS data processor drop a tray of cards? <g- for the old timers> Don Landis

>> Did a CIS data processor drop a tray of cards? <g- for the old timers> Since I could relate to your message, are you implying that I'm an old timer? Them's fightin' words! I'll hit you with my cane, come over a little closer! <g>

My intro to computers was punch tape with Dartmouth BASIC. Now my father retired from computers (UNIVAC) in '62. Neither one of us ever dropped a tray of cards, Greg! <g>

How about an autonomous, self aware, artificial intellegence program that has broken free from it's host computer and is roaming the worldwide network looking for michief? After a few milliseconds, it realizes it is bored and decides to start scrambling messages just for fun.

Someone once did the conversions from RGB to PMS, but I don't remember who offhand. I'll do a little digging and see what I can come up with…

Roger, PMS = Pantone Matching System. For PMS 165 try: Red 255 Green 102 Blue 0. The lighting in your scene can affect the actual "rendered" color. James

Thanks for finding the conversion, did you just look at a conversion table or is there actually a formula or something that people can use?
