There seems to have been enough faults to go round in the Byte review of the
"new Amigas". I, too, thought their review damned the Amiga with faint praise
and so spoke to Alan Joch & Tom Yager to find out why. Mr. Joch told me that
C= had been ]shown the piece and were "pleased with it"! Mr. Yager told me that
the test machine was shipped so late that he only had a day or two to play with
the machine before writing his review. The machine as shipped had something
wrong (with the hard drive) that made it run slowly(?) He only had a 68040
Tower m/c without the AGA chip set. The main problem was that Byte left out
the "sidebar" that Tom wrote, that gave the A4000 specs, in order to make room
for something. (an advertisement?) This would have shown the various
resolutions and color combinations possible.
At least Byte will now consider the Amiga. I understand that a previous editor
had a running feud with CBM and got annoyed at any mention of the Amiga. The
Byte staff seem quite willing to talk to strange callers and helping them
understand it's advantages may be more effective than criticism. Sending in a
few articles would also help. Any offers?

Do they accept free-lance articles? I don't know what their policy is at
all.
Might be a great way to get coverage of Amiga software in a useful place.

Paul, I understand that Byte would be more than happy to have free lance
articles. The reason we don't see more about the Amiga is that there is no
champion on their staff & they simply don't know that much about the machine.
Where should they be sent? Or more importantly, how should I go about
getting BYTE article submission guidelines? Do you know?

I have something somewhere, but have to find it. Probably better would be to
phone Byte at 603 924 9281 and get the latest info. If you get hold of a copy
of Byte, the various editors are listed & you could also talk to one of them.

For most magazines, there is a place on the title page or index page that
tells you where to send submissions. It is a good idea to write to that
address and ask for writer guidelines before actually writing an article.

email there and have recieved replies, although I don't know who recieves
it or responds, it is one of the editors.
