#AGA on 500,2000,3000!!!

HI…
I have a friend who has discovered a file on the Internet called SoftAGA.
This program was developed by PWS (whoever that is). The following
excerpt is from a readme file in the archive. I don't know if it is
copyrighted or not so I don't want to post the file yet. The program has
a copyright of 1993 but after what is in the text file, it might be okay
to post…
I am a former PWS engineer now currently employed in sales
support at Commodore. After sitting on the sidelines for months while
speculation mounted as to the possibility of a software hack to
allow ECS machines to run AGA software, I have finally decided to
release this copy of SoftAGA, which is a product that will never reach
the market legitimately, now that Commodore have crushed PWS in a swift
legal challenge. What the heck, I've never signed an NDA, so here it is.
Oh yes, the program *WORKS* !! I own an Amiga 2500HD and have been
enjoying the AGA chipset for some time now. It DOES require a lot of
initial tweaking to adjust the parameters to your system, however I
assure you the results are worth it! Have fun…
Codename: ORION.
Supposedly this program will allow any NON-AGA user with at least 1.5 MB
of RAM, ECS Chipset, KS 2.04, and WB 2.1 or higher to use AGA!!! It says
it will support HAM8 and 256 color WB! I can't believe it. It claims
that it uses new programming techniques called PCR (Programmable Circuit
Routing) as well as the new HyperAcceleration ™. It claims that it
will not slow down your machine much at all! The docs talk about Team AGA
working on pushing the ECS chipset to its limits… they even made two
500's at 150Mhz!
It may be all just hype but the program looks legit. I, unfortunately
have a 1200 and have no use for such a program. However, I would love to
see if it works… Hmmmm……

SoftAGA does not work on my 3000 and I seriously doubt that it works on any
machine.
Hmmm… well that blows that idea. Is it okay to upload to the libraries to
let other people see if it will work?
Jon
It has been uploaded an tested by many people — it will not be made public as
it is a waste of time for the 200k download.
Jonathan,
Why not upload it, and let some of us have at it? I could afford to spend
a couple of hours chasing a fiction 🙂

I've got SoftAGA. If anyone wants, I'll send it email on the condition
that they keep me up to date on getting it to work. I'll only send it to a
few people since I cannot afford multiple uploads. You can pass the files
amongst each other if you want.

I have the program as well and I personally think it's a joke.

SoftAGA should be called SoftGAG. It's a gag program — as ought to be apparent
from the docs — and is widely available as such via various FTP mirrors in
game/gag.
