Erik, oh yes. I kind of forgot about that bit of limitation in the composite
conversion stage. Oh well, guess they shouldn't be all that bad. Best to ya

It WAS interesting to see the degradation caused by going to composite
NTSC and back.
I'll put that stuff together today and send it to you . . .

Erik, no hurry, really <g>. Take your time since the week-end is dedicated to
getting the most from the DigiCam and working all the "glitches" out of using
direct R/G/B switching and only going to component/composite at the very end of
the chain (VTRs). Anyone ever trys to tell you that you can ship an 1100 line
resoultion signal through a "MicroLink" using composite, don't believe it
<grin>. May end up doing four separate paths for R/G/B/S just to keep the base
line quality level, but more later. Safe week-end to ya, Erik.

OK, so I lied. . . I STILL haven't gotten those samples together.
(I'm rendering in the background, and don't have enough free RAM to
do much more than run AutoPilot. :^(

Erik, okay, we both lied <grin>. How about 1100 lines direct R/G/B/S
connection in 16:9 mode (just failed to mention that "detail"). Well, I
figured you would know what I meant <gr>. Yep! It was quite a weekend and
discovered what happens when you run "Flat" rather than "EIA" video response
and try to feed that to a U-Matic. Well, looks like it's time for new VTRs
<g>. Frame from that DigiCam up this date "Sally.Jpg" using direct R/G/B
analog and doing a freeze frame directly off the R/G/B camera feed (look ma, no
tape). Actually, the video chain is only rated to 10 mHz +/- 3 dB, and there
was no aliasing in the TBC to contend with, only more baseline noise because of
the flat response without the 4.25 roll off. Actual equivalency in 4:3 is
around 780 lines or 9.75 mHz. I believe it looking at the resolution chart, if
only the main studio monitor was rated higher. There is just no way that I can
get it on and back off video tape with the formats I have here though <sigh>.
Oh well, back to the "bankers".

Designed for the "All New Digital BetaCam" editing system with both
capabilities. Fry a U-Matic? You could probably drop one of those things from
the bridge and have it run over by a truck and still work <grin>. Most solid
paperweights ever made. It was just that the response wouldn't handle what was
there. Feed it in at full response and have it come out at about 340 to 350
lines was kind of a disappointment, but not unexpected. For that, I could have
used the BetaCam <grin>. But, it does great freeze frames since the TBC will
handle up to 10 mHz easily.

I figured bandwidth was your main problem with the 3/4" decks.
I finally got those Toaster test images composited, so look for them in
the NewTek library sometime in the next day or 2.
(BTW, I noticed that the colors in your bars were not 'pure' colors. ie:
Magenta had 2 units of green in the signal, whereas the Toaster bars were
equal parts red & blue, w/o any green. This might have been part of the
reason that your bars seemed to show more artifacting than the bars
generated by the Toaster?)
