AAPro and Summa
8 messages in this thread
Nik,
I'm a little confused by the message you forwarded from John. I am not aware of
any reccurring problems with the Summagraphics tablet. (at least the 12×12
version, I have have seen problems with other sizes, but they were always
individual problems tht were fixed.).
Aslo, John was talking about pressure features. Is he really talking about the
Wacom tablet? The Summa that has a driver in AAPRO is not a pressure sensitive
driver.

Brian,
Thanks for your comments about the reliability of the Summa. It's apparently
"understood" by a number of people that there are problems with the Summa and
AAPro.
No bug has been submitted to Autodesk, and I have not run into the problem with
my own use.
Nik
Oh, not,
YAAP (Yet Another AutoDesk Person) who hasn't heard of the intermittent
problems with the Summagraphics tablet. The mouse response flips top and
bottom for me.

You Misunderstand! We have definitely heard of the problem…we haven't been
able to reproduce it. That which we can not reproduce here, can not be
examined, fixed, worked around, etc…and leads us to believe that it is a
certain combination of hardware and the Summa that is causing the problem, and
not an inherent AAPRO problem. I've had my Summa hooked up to at least four
different systems, without a problem.
If both of you are having the same problem, tell us about the rest of your
setup, and lets see if we can find some similarities to track down this
problem.

Brian:
I too have a problem using a Summasketch III Pro 18×12 to work in an 18×12 mode
it will work fine in 12×12 mode. There is however a bigger problem making the
stylus work with it at all (it works fine with a 16 button tablet), it just
doesn't work with the drivers provided, are there any new drivers out there.
Sanjeev.
Autodesk hasn't any updated drivers. To make sure I understand, you would like
to use the 18×12 with a stylus, full tablet area, in "absolute mode" rather
than "mouse mode" – right?
I'll have to check into this, and don't have an 18×12 readily handy.
Nik (bug me if you don't hear from me this week on this)
Nick:
Gotcha, and will bug you by the end of the week if I have no reply/solutions.
All your assumptions are on the mark by the way.
Thanks very much.
Sanjeev.
Sanjeev (and Chuck Jameson):
I've got a COMPAQ 486/33L and 2 digitizers which I've tested that seem okay
with AAPro: SummaSketch Plus 12×12 and the SummaSketch III.
My testing was with AAPro 1.3. I started with the Microsoft mouse in 640×480
mode, then configured for COM2, then configured for STYLUS, then, after a
slight pause, the cursor movement was picked up by the stylus. I went back
into mouse mode a couple of times, did a few changes of screen size to make
sure I had access to the edges of the screen. I spent 5 minutes with each one
working, going in and out of menus, changing screen size, etc.
I do not have an 18×12 (I'll have to do some research to find who has). Can
anyone tell me if the problems they're facing would have been uncovered with
the brief testing I performed? Again, I would love to be able to duplicate the
problems you have in house!
Please let me know,
Nik
